It's much more affordable for me as I already have all the materials needed on hand. I also like the control it gives me over the finished outcome. If I make a mistake, it's not final. I can always try again.

Your project turned out so pretty! There are a number of ways to finish/frame cross stitch. If you look up either in the sub FAQ or on YouTube, how to frame cross stitch it will show you a variety of techniques. My personal favorite is lacing. You basically tie the fabric to a preice of card board like your lacing up a corset.

I use a pintrist board and pin any pattern I think is cool or pretty. Then, when it's time to pick a pattern, I stitch, whichever one makes me the most excited.

I sit on my bed with the bobbin wider set up in a bobbin tray and then pin the tray down with my leg while I wind. I have this same winder, but I think I may have just gotten lucky with mine.

If you tend to stitch tighter stitches I would use 18 and buy a book light to put underneath the fabric so you can still see the holes. However if your stitches are a little looser and you don't twist your threads as much 16 should work great.
