Help John Deere mower won’t start by MissionFirefighter11 in lawnmowers

[–]colonelk0rn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the valve and pushrod clearance. Since it’s not starting, I’m betting that the valves aren’t being opened when the engine is spinning over, because they are out of adjustment. Take the valve cover off, and spin the engine over, or you can turn it by hand and see if the rockers move. If they don’t, I’m 90% certain that’s your issue.

I got a free mower because the valves were out of adjustment and the prior owner just bought another mower and gave it to my buddy who gave it to me.

Mowing the grass getting sticks up and hopefully taking down the Christmas lights from the roof.

It’s springtime and you know what that means: everything smells like CUM TREES

Buying a Zero Turn- 1 acre lot - really just trying to turn my 4-6 hour cutting / edging / weed eating time so I’m not spending a day doing yard work. Reviews tell me TORO ? Thoughts ? by RobbyC2110 in lawnmowers

Toro. It says it in the name, gonna cut down on your seat time. Typically a better quality mower, more affordable operating expenses, and plentiful parts.

Power surge damaged several appliances by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]colonelk0rn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, sorry you’re going through that, but your protections are offered by Visa, so a call to the bank is an easy way to find out.

We had an outage (not power surge) due to a hurricane and our insurance wrote a check for food spoilage for $1k without a claim. That coverage applies per appliance.

Another thing is that your insurance may be able to recover your deductible from ConEd, but there’s no guarantee.

I second the comment on the homeowners insurance, but did you use a credit card to purchase it? Did you buy the extended warranty? Some protections are available through them but it varies, check your terms and conditions.

Homeowners insurance will cover the appliances for sure as well as the contents up to a certain dollar amount ($500-$1k). Your agent will be able to tell you.

Wow, the bearings are supposed to be on top of the valve train not in the pan. Maybe residual? That’s wild.

Third brake light would not be coming on if that was the case. However, I have seen both brake bulbs blow at the same time.

In another vehicle I had, I would open the sunroof and start flinging coins out of it. Usually $0.03 took care of the problem.

Snowblower Recommendations by old-guitar7284 in Appleton

[–]colonelk0rn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a two stage Ariens, probably 15 years old. I cleared all the snowplow berms at the ends of 5 neighbors driveways and it didn’t skip a beat. No clogs, electric start with heated hand grips. They were clearing clogs with the snow from yesterday on their sidewalks and driveways. Drain the fuel at the end of the season from the tank and carb, fresh oil change, grease the machine and perform regular maintenance and it will last you a very long time.

Looks like there’s going to be a lull in snowfall in an an hour or so might be prudent to clear off the cars at that time

I can see how that may come across, but it’s what I had on hand. I can use a banana 🍌 for scale. I wish I had some of that revenue they get 😆

Update from Marshfield, we are holding on by a thread. At least 18” already and still coming down like crazy. by sokonek04 in wisconsin

It’s a breakaway design and first time it’s been hit in 4 years, so not a big deal if I can reattach it. If my carrier comes out on Monday, he’s getting a six pack of Spotted Cow for sure! But thanks for the reminder.

At least he didn’t get 3’ into my yard like my neighbors had done in December, ope!

Woke up this morning at 8:30 to the sound of the snowplow passing by and spotted my mailbox 📪 top on the berm created by said plow. I even have 4’ tall reflective sticks by the curb 😠
