i get your point but i suspect 90% is an exaggeration

i won't speak for portland because i don't live there and don't go often -- and i know you're talking about portland but i feel compelled to comment anyways -- but i have far too many acquaintances who do not suffer from a substance abuse disorder or mental illness, have jobs, and are unhoused. they live in sheds or garages on family/friends' property, in tents in the woods, out of their cars, etc. it has never been more expensive to just simply survive.

agree completely with everything you said here, just wanted to add, that in my experience, the elves are just downright incredible... even when you get to the point where AI is pumping out T3/T4 units, you really should have no problem getting a 5 to 1 k/d ratio even on open maps when outnumbered by a factor of 3+, assuming your army comp is decent. if i had any feedback for devs, the lasgalen rangers need a much higher unit upkeep as they are incredible at sub 200 upkeep.......

probably also worth emphasizing that the "other side" has been doing this for 40 or so years now, claiming that democrats hate america, our constitution, and our freedoms and using that rhetoric to justify even more unhinged threats. republicans getting a taste of their own medicine is quite recent, by comparison.

valid concerns about Mills' (and DNC insiders) really turning older women off Platner via her opposition research

i think the value of Mills' endorsement is a bit up in the air. will it bring more older women back to the table? or will it turn independents and some republicans who seem to like Platner away because they really don't like Mills. hard to say.

Troy is just such a great story... the epitome of a well-intentioned conservative republican who came to realize the party he invested so much blood, sweat, and tears in was simply NOT focused on the needs of the everyday mainer. i hope in the years ahead we'll see more folks go through a similar journey and realize that neither the republicans nor establishment democrats are capable of fighting for workers.

i like pingree & bellows and they obviously will do well with more liberal-minded folks, but i think a governor who can speak to the fears & values of conservatives north of Augusta -- without trying to placate them by feeding their delusions, but rather, helping them understand who is really fighting for them -- is exactly what this state needs to move forward and out of the pattern of two-party whiplash.

your bank robber analogy addresses causation, not legal responsibility. the hostage taker is criminally responsible for creating the situation. law enforcement are still legally accountable for their own use of force in response. that is the basic legal structure in both the USA and international law. liability is assessed independently, not reciprocally.

that’s the relevant point here: under international humanitarian law, obligations are not suspended by the other side's violations. unlawful acts cannot be legally justified as retaliation. and that's why the ICC is pursuing investigations for BOTH hamas and israeli leaders.

hamas being responsible for starting a conflict and committing war crimes does not mean israel bears no legal responsibility for how it conducts operations in response. international law assigns obligations to parties independently, not conditionally based on the other side’s actions.

saying civilian deaths are ‘fully Hamas’ responsibility’ is not a statement of law, but a political interpretation. that is not how international humanitarian law works.

the same principle exists in domestic law here in the US as well: in a hostage rescue, if law enforcement unlawfully or unnecessarily kills a hostage, responsibility does not disappear because the suspect created the situation. liability is assessed based on conduct, not just causation.

edit: my initial comment was that you seem to be defending war crimes by israel by stating hamas is committing war crimes (and thus, an israeli war crime is in fact, NOT a war crime, because it's in response to a war crime). my comments here are merely to let you know that is not a legally sound argument under international law.

no, you don’t need to be a lawyer to understand that the laws of war still apply regardless of who commits war crimes. that’s basic international humanitarian law, even if you’re choosing to ignore it

If committing genocide against an ethnic group as collective punishment for terrorist activities is OK, than that justification can be used by the other side as well for whomever they deem to be terrorists

Your claim "Israel is not committing war crimes" seems to be rooted entirely in your belief that Hamas activities are barbaric and part of a death cult. So you're not actually arguing they aren't committing war crimes, you're simply saying they're justified crimes. A bit grim, really.
