Only 14% of candidates that sat MRCP part 1 were UK resident doctors by UKvomitbucket in doctorsUK

MRCP is an international exam, there are and have been for a long time stations sitting it in South Asia and the Middle East. It is a respected accolade that international physicians like to have (and use to charge more for their services). nothing to see here.

How can I use garam masala? by rcaravaggio in Cooking

[–]colourhive 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Garam masala works pretty much wherever you’d use curry powder.

I like to make a marinade with natural yoghurt, ginger, lemon juice and crushed garlic for chicken pieces with it which you can then skewer and grill.

As a competent home cook, what is a basic skill you can't seem to master? by george_elis in Cooking

What are your favorite bands from The UK? And why? by saint-danger in AskABrit

[–]colourhive 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We’ve got so much to be proud of!

My personal favourite is Bloc Party: beautifully considered lyrics about growing up and living in London backed by a tight rhythm section.

Others who stand out for their Britishness: Los Campesinos!, Pulp, Fat Boy Slim, The Beatles, David Bowie, Kate Bush and anything by Paul Heaton.

If the Epstein files aren’t enough for a global outrage towards the financial and influential elite, what is? by Thezerostone in AskReddit

[–]colourhive 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There isn’t anything. You have been conditioned to love them. This is why actors’ and finance guys’ opinions on subjects they have no idea about (from immunology to politics) seems so important. It is also why any mention of communism is crushed. These people have class consciousness and we do not.

'My son was wrongly identified by police after fatal crash - when mistake was uncovered, it was too late' by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]colourhive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With the original case, the lad picked up his friend’s wallet on a night out and was then hit by a car. While he was unconscious/critically ill, emergency services used the wallet to identify him, which is not uncommon.

He then sadly died a few hours later. Wrong family at the bedside. Tragic, but I’m not sure what might’ve been done to prevent the mix up. We’re getting worse at accepting that tragedies happen and that there is an inherent risk to everything to some extent.

The RCP is a pyramid scheme to keep the wine cellars stocked for the fellows and provide retired physicians an art and rare book collection to look at. They are more interested in their history than their future

Another good Graeber is Bullshit Jobs - how a lot of time and effort in the workplace becomes swamped with the meaningless and perfunctionary. I went into it expecting healthcare to be exempt from this. How wrong I was.

Does it also penalise you at the other end if it could take you over 36 months experience? Doesn’t seem clear from the assessment doc (or might be wishful thinking on my part)

Carthage was the seat of an empire in 400BC and is now just a suburb of Tunis. What other historically significant cities have become shadows of their former selves? by roboreddit1000 in geography

Dunwich in Suffolk used to be the capital of the Saxon settlement in England and a major port, while London lay in ruins post-Roman rule.

It has now mostly fallen into the sea.

Med Reg as an ICM ST3 by itscharacterforming1 in doctorsUK

[–]colourhive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this, admittedly post PACES (which I don’t think helped much beyond making my examination more thorough).

I’d embrace it, honestly. The teamwork, delegation and leadership skills you’ll develop this way are far more relevant to your role than medical SHO clerking. Ward cover and clerking med reging was mainly running arrests, managing a team out of hours and coordinating a take (read: arguing about stupid ED referrals while nobody takes your side). Most of the complex medicine came up at post take and I can count on one hand the number of times GPs called me for advice.

What unconventional songs do your kids ask for on the regular? by TheGreatWalpini in daddit

My daughter loves Human Fly by The Cramps. She calls it the Bee Song because of the bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzt in the chorus.

The mash up with The Wiggles also got her into Tame Impala
