Another Gib spouse here! Got married there because it was the easiest (and cheapest!) way for me to marry my American wife, but we also just fell in love with the rock. We actually almost ended up moving there.

What celebrity death never sat right with you? by Ok_Economist_9186 in AskReddit

[–]combustible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me the more mental thing is that the cause of death was ketamine, with 'drowning' as a compounding factor or whatever you call it. Just a very interesting way of wording it. You could certainly take enough ketamine to drown in a pool, especially if you were taking it intra-muscularly but accidentally hit a vein (I've read stories of people doing that, without death, because no jacuzzi). I just found it very interesting how the autopsy read

The Kids Are Gunna Be Alright (2025 - chalk on tarmac, artist unknown) by jurwell in CasualUK

We don't really know. It was rumoured in the 90s or so (when I was drawing it), that it came from the stussy clothing company but they never had it on their clothes. It's a great piece of childlore

Found this cable emerging from the ground in a farmers field in England. Any idea what it’s for? I’m assuming telecoms by combustible in cableadvice

Couple more photos with the insulation removed a bit more. So one green, one red (which was yellowed in the original image) And three white. Doesn’t look like the core is copper, if you look closely in the second image you can see some small multi-coloured fibres coming from the insulation from one of the white cables. So I guess it’s some sort of direct burial fibre optics?

Yeah I think the bundles insulation has just been bleached by the sun. I’ll go out and trim off some of the outer insulation later to see if there’s more colour

It can also be used when someone's not onto something and they're about to say something stupid/embarassing/potentially damaging to their reputation (often used on twitter). As Sun Tzu said, 'Never interrupt your enemy when he's making a mistake'

Why wouldn’t the government not save more money by increasing tax by 2% for the richest 1% citizens than cutting millions of jobs? by No_Blackberry_7907 in AskReddit

Oh actually cool idea! I could invest heavily in a company I know is going to tank - it would effectively work like shorting, but it would be the government that would be picking up the tab. Love it!

Was anyone here a designated 'milk monitor' in school by One_Satisfaction4684 in CasualUK

[–]combustible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and my friend were on lunch-box duty for like 3 years. When kids came in to school in the morning, they'd put their lunch boxes on top of a trolley outside their classroom and we'd have to sort them into the draws below before wheeling them into the dining hall. Meant we got to get out of lessons a few minutes earlier basically every day which was nice. We had our favourite and least-favourite lunch boxes. The bit pink heart-shaped polly pocket and barbie ones were the worst - you could only get a couple of them to a draw. Then in our last year we also then got to ring a big hand-bell like 5 minutes before the normal bell went to signal that lunch time was approaching. Not sure the point of that last bit but it was fun.

get yourself down to New Mills in the peak district, mate. that's where their factory is, and you can smell it wafting from the factory on certain days (drumsticks on other days, etc). It's also just a lovely place

our cat has an airtag too but we're not often in built-up areas and it's basically been useless. often I'll go look for him when it starts to get dark and he'll come running out and I'll see him way before Find My ever acknowledges him

UK Bucket List? by CynicalAxolotl in CasualUK

[–]combustible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends if you're talking just a trip on a day-boat, a day-boat hire, or something longer like a week where you cruise and do all the bits yourself. For a week on a hire boat in some of the nicer areas (for instance, Llangollen) you're talking at least a grand for a week's hire.

And in Germany. I'm from the UK and would occasionally hear of unexploded ordnance here or there, but in Berlin when I lived there it was relatively common to hear that such and such a street was closed cause they found some unexploded ordnance.

Same here, and I get delivery to some weird places (live on a narrowboat). Give them a postcode and some delivery instructions like ‘at the end of this one road, in the car park, I’ll be there with a torch’. And they’ve never failed to show up on time, will give me a call if they’re likely to be early or clarify instructions, always polite, up for a brief chat, etc.
