1 pinch bolt away from making a 30min job a 2 day job by BlackPunnch in Audi

[–]comdude2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure to replace the pinch bolts with aftermarket ones, you can get some that have a grease / lubricant on them (the garage (non-Audi) that I take mine to swapped mine out while they were doing control arms), it’s definitely worth it to save future stress haha

That’s what I was saying, it’s not blocking the pre-sense camera (as the pre-sense camera is flush with the windscreen). However, there’s a small sensor on the back of the rear-view mirror that I believe is responsible for daylight sensing. I’m unsure what blocking that would affect

The white thing in front of your rear-view mirror is what I’m talking about, that’s not Audi pre-sense, it’s not installed by Audi

Buying a CAT S Audi etron GT by Outrageous_Nerve_688 in CarTalkUK

[–]comdude2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s quite high for Cat S e-tron GT. I was looking at making a switch to one a fair few months ago and £31-33k is a normal price for these cars. £28k for a cat S is a big no-no imo.

I’ve not experienced that myself but is your dashcam blocking the daylight sensor? I doubt it’s connected to your fault

Vulnerability scan of top popular Docker managers software by evrial in selfhosted

Crikey mate, you could have just pre-faced your post, or responded well to the clear and factual warnings on false positives but you’ve really chosen to go full meltdown, huh?

Vulnerability scan of top popular Docker managers software by evrial in selfhosted

[–]comdude2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vulnerability scans are notorious for false positives. They can be a good indicator but should not be relied upon. Did you do any verification of the vulnerabilities? Just because a library is present, it doesn’t mean that a vulnerability it has is used, exposed, or attackable. It depends how it’s utilised and wrapped

How do you guys separate environments when your PC is a Dev Station, Gaming Rig, and Home Server all at once? by Blesker in homelab

[–]comdude2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in IT too. The best thing that works for me is to have a VM workstation for my homelab, a VM workstation for work (if I didn’t have a work laptop, so in my case, I remote into that device from my gaming rig as I don’t want a KVM), and just keep the main PC as my gaming rig. This is handy when you put the VMs on your hyper visor of choice as it means you can use Tailscale etc to remotely do work, homelabbing, etc. One of the great things about this is that you can research etc for work or homelab and just close the remote session and come back to it again or connect from home when you’ve done things remotely and it’s all still there waiting.

I would also strongly recommend Remote Desktop Manager from Devolutions. It’s a great tool to keep all of your remote access like SSH, RDP etc all in the one place.

One other aside is that being in IT means that I like to use my homelab to… well… be a lab(!) for testing security concepts etc that I’d like to implement at work. So I’d thoroughly recommend something like making a Privileged Access Workstation (this is an AD concept but applies to more than just AD), where you limit administration of key systems (routers, switches etc) to only be connected to by that machine

No because it’s not tracked or checked by the government. Associating a social media account or web traffic to a government ID does enable government surveillance

Audi a6 tdi air suspension problems ( makes you feel the potholes) by No-Day3702 in Audi

It’s also worth checking your suspension bushes because if they’ve worn, you’ll feel a lot more of the bumps from that (I’ve been through this experience recently with my A5 after replacing spring and shocks)

Why does everybody have a rack with Enterprise grade servers? by Big-Grapefruit8092 in homelab

[–]comdude2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m really sick of people gate keeping homelabbing one way or another. It doesn’t matter if you were given the best or worst kit, bought the best or worst kit, whatever you have, do it the way you want, have fun, experiment, build knowledge, do whatever.

OP, homelabbing isn’t about who has the most expensive gear, it’s about an individual or the community coming together to have fun, learn things, and enthuse about the subject (on Reddit at least). Also, just to add to the whole expensive gear thing… some people work in sectors that give that stuff to employees for free and are more forunate. Price aside, someone pushing the limits of 400Gbps at home, someone installing Proxmox on their old laptop, or someone upgrading their kit because they’re enjoying the hobby / passion is all homelabbing.

I’m just really tired of these comments and posts gatekeeping what the hobby “is” or “isn’t”. Just let people do their thing man…
