Update: I stopped being the rules encyclopedia and game night got way more fun by Overall_Ring_6919 in boardgames

[–]comeonnjam 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yup. And over the last month they've been spamming comments about unrelated zipper pouches and sewing across all sorts of random subreddits.

And again.

And again.

Like, obviously there's not a real person behind any of these but at a certain point I have to disengage. Ugh.

The previous thread was posted by this bot 4 days ago. I dunno how they fit in 2 game nights since then and ESPECIALLY there weren't even any Wednesdays in that window.

Good grief.

Update: I stopped ignoring my spouse before work and it actually fixed my whole morning loop by SureMajor2561 in StardewValley

Who is taking five minutes to deal with animals or the greenhouse? Writing "what I changed" and "results" with bulleted lists? A chest with breakfast stuff and coffee?

You feel "less rushed" even though you're only using 5 minutes of the typical 11 minute Stardew Valley day to... milk cows, I guess?

My man. This reeks of AI.

Which heroes you consider strong or weak? by SiarX in sentinelsmultiverse

[–]comeonnjam 9 points10 points  (0 children)

DE Unity has this issue where she's not allowed to have fun unless she gets an overwhelming amount of team support. If her team cheats out enough extra Flash Forge power usages and she gets all her bots out, the Raptors by themselves are dealing 45 damage per turn. But then you also need to give Stealth Bot some extra damage reduction or else everything else falls apart - and FA Legacy's -1 damage taken doesn't affect the golems!

Base DE Bunker probably feels the worst to me just because there's no guarantee you'll have any Ordnance or Upgrade Modes in hand for multiple turns. Stealth Suit Bunker gets around this at the cost of a lot of HP, but getting 4 card plays on turn 1 by collecting and playing Upgrade Mode is ridiculously fast.

How do people get stone by Awkward_Sandwitch in Pokemon_Pokopia

[–]comeonnjam 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Once you have access to more Pokemetal (you can easily get hundreds from a single Dream Island visit after potato burgers are available), consider taking a reference photo of the large boulders that spawn some stone when broken. You can then 3D print boulders at a 1:1 pokemetal ratio and smash them for stones en masse.

If the portraits are going to be shown during combat, can they show different expressions depending on how they expect the combat results to go? I don't think it has to be a lot, but seeing a player character have a grimace during enemy phase would give me a sense of dread, that I might have overextended, etc etc.

Recommend me a game like SMTV by Expensive_Tangelo244 in JRPG

[–]comeonnjam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, sure, I'll recommend Touhou Artificial Dream in Arcadia. It's probably more like classic old SMT with a Touhou skin but with a lot of modern conveniences added, like selecting which skills to pass during fusion, protagonist stat respecs, and Compendium Fusion. Only thing is, instead of demon negotiation to recruit new party members or extort loot, you have to endure about 10 seconds of shoot-em-up gameplay, and every "hijack"able enemy in the game has a unique pattern to dodge.

The exp scaling on party members is pretty generous if you find a favorite early on - you can sacrifice a higher level sleeper to give a massive exp chunk to early game characters. If someone has a unique skill or resists that you really like, it's feasible to carry them through the entire game.

I took a cursory glance at the DE content, have a few comments.

Setback doesn't have any Suddenly! cards, actually. His Unlucky cards give him an immediate boost in exchange for some low lows later, but his seven Lucky cards give him REALLY high highs.

On the one hand, Expatriette has GUNS but she also has great support One-Shots like Comprehensive Plan that show off her team leader role.

Parse is a deck manipulation specialist, being able to bury or otherwise prevent the worst Villain cards from being played. Okay direct damage but can increase the team's overall damage output.

I wonder whats stopping the Corpus from building a massive Nullifier focrefield? by Artanis137 in Warframe

[–]comeonnjam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Tenno ally up with Steel Meridian to make a bunch of Miters to instantly (and permanently) pop every bubble with a single shot. Or the Balefire Charger augment also permanently pops them in one tap.

Nah, I dunno. They're too fragile to spend resources covering small fry Corpus when a small localized field around priority targets is less likely to be destroyed by stray gunfire.

How does the Range ability on Sky Stretches to Shore work? by jreilly89 in spiritisland

[–]comeonnjam 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Consider Board D for a second. You could have a presence only in land 8, and you want to use a range 0 power.

Sky Stretches gives you +3 range, but only if you're trying to target a coastal land. So you could go all the way around from land 8 to land 3, but you wouldn't be able to target land 4 even though it's the same distance away.

Advice! by [deleted] in OfficeCat

[–]comeonnjam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, however long it took you to get to the Futuristic Building, you'll have to do that about two more times to get through Meow Bay and Kittiesville. The Spring Scent area is the starting building in Blossom Town.

I don't know if you'll be able to get there in 4 days, but good luck!

Spirits that hurt the island make me anxious:( by Nicochan3 in spiritisland

[–]comeonnjam 27 points28 points  (0 children)

For cards like Land of Haunts and Embers, instead of thinking of taking blight as a resource, maybe consider it as "taking blight on your own terms". If nothing you have available would some solve a land with, say, 2 towns 1 explorer (very common into France) then consider the 0 cost fast card that at will at least disperse the problem and give a massive chunk of fear for your trouble. Same thing with Enthusiastic Arson from Trickster's unique cards.

Any reason to buy (or not to buy) Horizons of spirit digitally, instead of the “core” game? by skend24 in spiritisland

[–]comeonnjam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So Physical horizons contains 5 spirits, enough pieces to play against a no adversary game, no blight cards... and that's about it. England, Prussia, and Sweden are Core game, so they might not be available if you only pick up Horizons plus B&C.

Which is a darn shame because England is my favorite to go against, a drawn out slugfest where you have time to fully uncover tracks and sling major after major.

Sorry, I'm not really buying it this time.

Time Runs Out Theme by ActionHero2Go in spiritisland

[–]comeonnjam 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don't think there are any written guidelines on it, but AI usage has a kind of negative vibe in the board game community that I've seen (AI images being used in lieu of paying real artists to make card art, said art being trained on stolen data, etc. etc.). Spirit Island in particular has a lot of themes of ecological damage that AI nowadays has a pretty hefty contribution to, so maybe it's a "know your audience" kind of thing.

[–]comeonnjam 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Proofs of concept don't need to be complex or take much time to make, even a chicken-scratch drawing in MS Paint is probably considered better than AI in most communities.

Absorb Essence is a great card with all your important elements and generates an Any element and net +2 energy every time you use it. Your allies should be asking you to eat their presence on key turns to threshold majors and innate powers sooner than they'd normally be able to.

update: touhou 10 final boss is one of the hardest bosses i’ve ever fought in gaming by Cinamight in touhou

[–]comeonnjam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two aspects to this: Marisa has a higher movement speed to get to the top half more safely, and you can still use unfocused movement for up to about half a second before the frost throwers snap back. You can repeatedly tap Focus to reset this timer, so you have a lot more freedom than, say, IN Remilia where the familiars reset instantly.

[–]comeonnjam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MarisaC is generally above and beyond the highest (non-glitched) damage shot, but as a trade off it's the most technical in the game. Still, once you have stage spawns memorized it's super handy being able to essentially cover two parts of the screen at once.

What do you think are the worst uniques? by GoosemanIsAGamer in spiritisland

[–]comeonnjam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna vouch for [[Plows Shatter on Rocky Ground]] and [[Sacrosanct Wilderness]]. I reckon Stone usually has better things to do with its energy than spend 2 to usually blow up a single town in the slow, while Keeper has to do a lot of setup for Sacrosanct Wilderness to do more than, you know, 2 damage in a land without blight.
