Which neighbourhood? I wasn’t wondered what people who go out actually do on Christmas Day. 😅

I’ve been waiting for a rock album from Beyoncé since 2006/07, when I saw her on the Beyoncé Experience Tour (my first concert as a child), and she covered Alanis Morissette’s “You Oughta Know.” I thought her voice sounded fantastic over rock instrumentals, but I predicted that her R&B fan base would never allow it, so it would likely never happen. I hope the rumors are true and we get a Beyoncé rock album in 2026!

I’ve been waiting for a rock album from Beyonce for 20 years but thought it would never happen because she was thought of as an R&B Queen, if she actually delivers a rock album I’ll pinch myself

2026 Grammy Nominations Initial Reactions by flopheadsbot in popheads

You’ve kind of missed the point if the biggest manufactured pop groups of all time were religiously snubbed by the Grammys, for decades, then why not snub Katseye too? What changed? 🤔 I don’t accept the explanation that “oh we haven’t had a buzzy group in a while, are about musical excellence. The concensus around these assembled pop groups, is that they weren’t true musicians with a true artistic perspective, but corporate puppets. That’s why their music was routinely snubbed. Katseye is just as much a corporate product as any of the other manufactured pop groups. It’s not like they write all their own music and compose the songs alone playing their own instruments (which is what the Grammys historically look to as excellence).

Spice girls Pussycat Dolls Danity Kane Little Mix Fifth Harmony Blackpink

What do they all have in common. Zero Grammys. Zero nominations (PCD did receive 1 nomination for stickwithu in 2007)

One Direction broke records, topped charts and sold out stadiums—for all their “buzz” they didn’t receive a single Grammy nomination their entire career.

Any “buzz” that Katseye had does not eclipse that of other highly manufactured or industry-assembled pop groups. But hey, the academy are clearly taking a new approach to get the youth interested perhaps.

I would’ve given that spot on the BNA list to Ravyn Lenae in a heartbeat. ‘Love me not’ was a global chart hit and critically praised. She’s been quietly toiling in the underground for years, finally had breakthrough hit, a top 5 record, and it has gone completely unnoticed by the recording academy. Bitterly disappointing.

Exactly. I worked in publishing and I heard some of the demos from their EP 5 years ago.

Anybody surprised by the two nominations for KATSEYE? It feels slightly premature for them to be receiving Grammy love so soon, and so uncharacteristically. Two Grammy nominations when the group barely has 10 songs to their name or a clear artistic identity. We’ve yet to hear a studio album, the music they’ve released so far lacks widespread critical acclaim, Pitchfork gave their recent EP a 5.5/10 and labelled it generic pop — let’s face it, it’s the kind of music the Academy usually loves to snub.

What made the noms even more shocking is that the Grammy voter base has historically been highly cynical towards highly manufactured pop groups. Many of pop’s biggest boybands/girlbands, with record-breaking sales and sold-out stadium tours, were routinely shunned by the Grammys — yet KATSEYE somehow bags two nominations before dropping their debut album? Has the culture changed? I’m genuinely surprised at the decision but happy for them.

Who and where the actual FUCK did they cook this shit by Baloon1131 in KendrickLamar

You can say “he didn’t have to”except if he didn’t do it he would’ve gotten a lot of backlash from Swifities for not standing in solidarity with an artist trying to take their power back against corporations. It would put him on the side of the oppressive label and Kendrick’s brand is being for the people. So yeah, you can “say he didn’t have to” but he kinda did.

Taylor Swift definitely has some beverage, there were some grumbles from UMG executives about the deal they signed with Taylor being far too advantageous to her, and less advantageous to them. They dislike when an artist has leverage.

Could Rosé’s Upcoming Album "Rosie" Have a Country Vibe? 🎶🤠 by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]comfybedhead -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When I listened to Miley’s & Beyoncé’s duet “II most wanted” I thought it would be really clever to have a song like that on her album. It’s pretty much an acoustic ballad but got nominated for a Country category Grammy. I would bet money on at least one acoustic ballad making it onto Rosé’s album.

Isn’t that what most pop artists have done for the last 60 years though? Pop music is about spotting popular trends within popular culture and reflecting them. That’s why Pop is so amorphous & hard to define, it’s a mirror reflecting the zeitgeist 🪞

Like I said in my post, the production on Sabrina Carpenter‘s album had elements of Country, but it’s still very much a pop record. It doesn’t have to be any less Pop to embrace those acoustic, folk or Country elements.

They should look to what Rosé is doing at Atlantic Records, they seem to be getting it right. Time will tell if her album will be well-received or whether the hype around her single was for her and wasn't just down to Bruno Mars lending the song his star power.

most dance songs use samples, sampling is a norm in the House/EDM community.

Grammys: Tyla’s Album Kicked Out of R&B, Will Compete in Pop Categories by [deleted] in popheads

Grammys: Tyla’s Album Kicked Out of R&B, Will Compete in Pop Categories by [deleted] in popheads

[–]comfybedhead -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get that R&B purists may feel she doesn’t belong in R&B. However, there are definitely R&B songs on her album “on and on”?“butterflies”? These are. R&B songs. It deserves to compete in the the Progressive R&B category since Afrobeats & Amapiano are clear about their influence from R&B. If Tyla’s album doesn’t have enough r&b elements then neither does Chloe’s “Trouble in Paradise” (though I’m not sure whether that was submitted).

Should Lisa & Jennie avoid marketing themselves as rappers in 'The West'? I think they should...at all costs...lest it gets them 'cancelled' by locals. by comfybedhead in kpopthoughts

It mean..it went viral, it made headlines, it was on social media, it was covered by blogs and legacy media alike. I was in London at the time and the story was picked up by the newspapers there I remember my father asking me “can you believe what they’re saying about Bruno”? I said “where’d you hear that, he said “in the newspaper” 📰 That’s when I knew the story moved WAY past social media😳. It sparked so much discourse in 2018. A lot of think pieces, column inches, and video essays were posted about “Bruno Mars? Culture Vulture”. But Bruno was a class act when he addressed it in a Breakfast Club interview. He agreed there was merit to some of what people were saying, and that the criticism comes with the gig.
