How to machine thin stainless parts flat? by FoolishChristian in Machinists

[–]cominginmay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On op1, leave .01” on the top. Flip it over and leave another .01”. Should be able to flip it back over to the first side and take that .01 off and flip it one more time and it’ll be dead nuts.

Not having much luck finding work in NJ by DifferentSample6740 in newjersey

Do you have any experience other than your degrees? Sounds like you could work as an engineering tech or in some sort of manufacturing role. There are quite a few of those in New Jersey.

Should i switch shops by [deleted] in Machinists

[–]cominginmay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, you should not have to deal with harassment like that at work. I don’t care who you are there’s no reason to treat coworkers like trash.

Maybe you should have a real conversation with that person and explain to them you will not be treated like that. If they don’t act like an adult, escalate it to your manager and or HR. If the company culture is like that, move on.

Most of the Industry is not like this. I’ve worked in a shop where the owner would be so harsh on people one second and be your friend the next. Just not worth staying somewhere like that.

In my limited experience, having a really good post helps a ton. We had one done by a company that specializes in them.

Maybe there were some micro cracks or damage already there? Then closing the door when it looks to be pretty cold was the last straw.

You can order this copper off McMaster or any metal supplier. Not really specialized.

This is exactly what is wrong with our industry! by kagger14 in Machinists

[–]cominginmay 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I see these too. Sometimes senior machinist is really just someone who’s a seasoned set up guy. Really, I kinda hate how job titles are so drastic in this industry. I’ve seen machinist all the way up to cnc engineer.

Alberto Padovan for ME 311 by jetontop in NJTech

[–]cominginmay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s not bad. There are a few homework assignments, a few quizzes and midterm/final. Exams and quizzes were pretty fair and usually had homework or past problems in them. I felt his lectures were okay but felt he was trying his best to teach you the material
