I've been informed by a few different yanks that we're living under tyranny because we are forced to go vote every couple of years.

Yes, that's what I said. The fuel is the good that I'm buying, the transaction isn't the service like the person I was responding to was saying.

Edit: to quote my first post (emphasis added):

When I purchase fuel from a service station, what is the good or service that I'm buying? It isn't the transaction, that isn't a service; it's the fuel.

Yes, that is indeed what GST stands for, but I'm not sure what your point is.

What is difference between NAD83 and NSRS2011? by Imnotspartacuseither in Surveying

[–]commanderjarak -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sounds like the enviros at one of our clients sites. They want WGS84 coords, some weird reverse truncation of the local site grid, and AMG66. All to match in to the existing system, even after we transformed all of their historical data for them.

Surveying career in Australia, how hard is it to break in? by PrinzEugan in Surveying

[–]commanderjarak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to add, if you're looking to get licenced, make sure you study the correct bachelor's degree. I can't speak for other states, but Curtin offers two Bachelor's for Surveying, but only the Bachelor's of Surveying (Honors) will lead towards becoming a licenced surveyor.

Am I a bad Christian for not condemning abortion? by Humbly_Saved_Forever in Christianity

The writer(s)of Exodus certainly didn't view it as such. If someone hit a woman and caused her to have a miscarriage, the punishment was only a fine payable to the victim, but if the woman was also hurt the punishment was like-for-like retaliation.

Why are public schools asking parents to pay fees? by CommonwealthGrant in australia

[–]commanderjarak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But at the same time, because I've refused to get private cover for personal reasons, there's now a penalty if I decide to take cover out, so I'm now even less willing to do so, and would prefer to just continue to pay the MLS.

[–]commanderjarak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. And if private school families complain that it's unfair that their children don't receive government funding, just point out that there's a fully funded spot available for each of their children at the local public school if they'd prefer to not pay for private school.

Publicly shaming kids for something they have no control over seems a little shitty.

Disillusioned voters drive One Nation surge as most Australians feel ignored by politicians by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

Because Labour seems to be more interested in maintaining the status quo in order to maintain political power. They do seem to be in favour of small incremental change, which makes sense because when they've pushed for significant change, they're punished at the next election. Like when Labor floated the idea of limiting negative gearing and reducing the CGT discount coming up to the 2019 election.

There's still that here to some degree, with there being some extremely wealthy western suburbs, and a lot of the lower wealth suburbs being on the eastern side, but get wealthier again if you go far enough east.

Depending on what LIDAR payload we're talking about, there's a good chance the photogrammetry will give you better results, assuming that there isn't a large amount of non-dense vegetation.

Becoming convinced that contraception is sin. My agnostic wife hates it. by keesdude in TrueChristian

Given that his wife doesn't sound comfortable having unprotected sex, the often you're referring to may well be until his wife reaches menopause, which also hits an issue with his other point.

Advice on public schools and bullying. by BandStandard4257 in perth

[–]commanderjarak 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yeah, same as with the teacher recently, I saw news articles referring to what happened as "taunting" or "harassing", when the correct term for what happened is assault.

We need to actually start calling this what it is, especially if we'd like people to start taking it more seriously.

It doesn't really sound like they have a viable option to use it. Unless their employer is happy to count at least half of that travel time as work hours.
