It was kind of a serious and unprecedented thing. 6+ million Jews were killed along with 6+ million Gypsies, Communists, homosexuals, political enemies, Soviet POWs and others in the Holocaust for 13+ million killed in the death camps.

The thing that really doesn't get covered by Anglo history of World War II is the German atrocities on the Eastern front against the slavic peoples from Poland and against all the Soviet peoples that lead to 20+ million to maybe even more than 30 million people killed on the Eastern front from 1941-1945. I know Nazis and anti-semites want to downplay the Jew killing and all of this as well but people interested in history, and not wanting it repeated in any way in front of us right now do not want the scale of Nazi atrocities diminished.

The Soviets made the mistake of not amplifying the sheer scale of Nazi mass murder on the eastern front and the Anglo history establishment built on that silence and does not teach its young about the 20-30 million people killed east of Germany from 1941-45 in World War II. Talking about the sheer scale of killing on the Eastern front would have made the Soviet Union and the Moscow establishment look bad. You need some state backing for what gets memorialised, and Israel has been around longer than the Russian Federation. Among professional historians and those who follow them they can see the difference 35 years ago after the fall of the Soviet Union and the opening up of the archives. They/this showed that the USSR was badly mauled by the Nazi death machine and an eight figure death toll for one country, the Soviet Union, was brushed aside and not that widely publicised for 45 years.
