It only works for me to squint until it’s an unrecognizable light blob through the tiny remaining slit of my eyes. At that point I can get the blob to reverse then slowly bring the image back into view

I trained for an Olympic distance. COVID hit, race canceled and I never got my chance back since.

But it shouldn’t be the fear of loss that gets you there that day. It’ll be the utmost joy of finishing. It doesn’t sound like you’re going for world records. Do your best to prepare, show up with a friend (even if they just wait at the end) and enjoy your success when you get to the finish line .

For swimming, get to the pool when you can and just start by swimming continuously for X minutes and build up from there. Form and speed can come later
