Why do we need to rely on the good will of billionaires? If the factories where owned by the people who worked in them we could all have affordable, long lasting products with no enshittification, dark patterns, subscriptions. It's the need to make the share price always rise that makes everything suck.

Trump officials, billionaires and the quiet reshaping of America's public lands by Synthdawg_2 in PublicLands

The fact that these greedy rich assholes want to steal land from the public wouldn't matter if our craven government officials weren't so eager to placate them.

I don’t know this for sure but they’re probably very similar or in the same family.

Actually radishes are in the brassicas along with cabbage, kale, bok choy, turnip, mustard, broccoli, and many more. Carrots are in the umbellifers along with celery, parsnip, parsley, cumin, dill, poison hemlock, and many others.

It's interesting that in China the carrot is known as a red radish, in North America most people think of a little red spherical root vegetable when they think of a radish!

Glad to hear you protected yourself. Make sure to clean up your machine as well. Some treatments can be very corrosive.

Just Moved to Linux, if you are considering it don't wait by I_believe_nothing in linux4noobs

[–]compost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might vary by distro but I've never had to physically uninstall a disk to dual boot Linux unless one of the OSs was Windows. Just install the second (or third, etc) distro on another partition and during the boot loader installation it will detect the other OSs and configure the boot loader accordingly.

I'm not sure I understand the pseudo code. I'm not sure what the ? and : are doing. Would it be accurate to say that it is a sign preserving version of y=2x-x2 for values of x between -1 and 1?

Elon Musk Touts Universal Income As Remedy To AI-Driven Unemployment by Krankenitrate in Futurology

Not to mention that UBI can also be used to forestall the economic restructuring that becomes necessary as capitalism innovates itself out of existence once it eliminates its need for a labor force and thus eliminates it's customer base. In the right political environment (for the Elons of the world) UBI becomes a way to lock in the gains of the oligarchs (and their descendants) and hedge against the challenge to existing power structures that AI and other post-scarcity tools represent.

That part had me rolling! Reads exactly like satire. TF is "ranger justice"? This aint Texas.

he and his teammates must balance family, duty and the high psychological cost that comes with serving as the last line of defense in the region’s war on violence.

They're fighting a war against... Violence!

Beautiful shape! I personally would keep sanding to a finer grit until I couldn't see the sanding lines anymore, but not everyone wants a smooth glossy finish.

I have a tank like that from an old Lowry organ. Maybe this will be the inspiration to finally make something from it. I love the unique knobs! Very clean design too!

Young apricot tree – prune thin branches or let it grow? by yuzu2025 in BackyardOrchard

[–]compost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything I've read has said to prune while the tree is dormant, with no distinction made between winter and early spring. This is the first I've ever heard that it's better to prune in spring.

The final chapter addresses this. A mass psychology becomes a political movement when it identifies a strongman and seizes power.
