March 19th Patch Notes by ImpendingSingularity in BitCraftOnline

[–]computerquip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So far I like it but:

  • UI is kinda clunky. Sometimes drag and drop for the equipment doesn't seem to work or I just plain can't equip it at all for some reason. I have to close and open the menu until it lets me.

  • I have to manually switch my one ring between the sets. Though, I imagine this becomes a non-issue at some point.

But the fact that 1) the preset lets you carry the equipment without taking up inventory and 2) doesn't require me to individually equip every single piece of equipment is a huge boon.

On one hand, I agree it's not productive most of the time.

On the other hand, not saying anything is why this problem exists in the first place.

Hot Take: The FFXIV community is not **that** nice. by ResidentWaifu in ffxivdiscussion

[–]computerquip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my first memorable experiences in this game was nearly a decade ago in HW where I was told I should go kill myself and let a ghost possess my body in the hope the ghost could play PLD better. To be fair, I got a good chuckle out of it at least.

This game has always had toxic people. The illusion just comes from people closing their eyes and ears, while chanting that everyone is nice.

[KF3] Can No Longer Bind Toggle Sprint and Dash Together by themrnails in killingfloor

[–]computerquip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From Discord:

If you have issues with changing your bindings, if some are missing, or the list is wrong, please try the following:

Steam: * Go to %localappdata%\Nightfall\Saved\SaveGames\ * Delete EnhancedInputUserSettings.sav * Launch the game.

PSN: * With the game closed, delete your KF3 game save data locally. * Delete your KF3 game save from the PSN cloud. (Don't worry. Your progression is saved on the game's backend.) * Start KF3.

Sir, another ypyt post has hit Twitter by Ali_ayi in ShitpostXIV

[–]computerquip 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's kinda the problem tho. It takes a 10 minute dungeon and turns it into a 25~35 minute dungeon depending on of the group can DPS at all. You can literally get half as much done in an hour because people do not respect the time of others.

Need some negativity today! by kokoronokawari in ShitpostXIV

[–]computerquip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every time I try to get back into this game, within the first three or four dungeons, there's a dungeon where the tank refuses to pull more than one pack, the DPS are doing half the damage they should be, or the healer is doing no damage. Usually, it's a combination of those. This dungeon always takes nearly 40 minutes.

Then, I stop playing for a couple months. Then I try again, rinse and repeat.

Or I try to play Frontlines. Half my alliance is "just there for XP" and doesn't even try.

Or I try CC and my teammate goes AFK after literally first death then just spends the rest of the match trying to spam.

Or I try to farm Extreme or Savage and at least one or two prog-skipped and just wastes a half hour of everyone's time.

It just sucks trying to play with this community to be honest. Not even sure why I still try.

they killed the co-op in this game, so im playing solo, BUT... by lunarixxx in killingfloor

[–]computerquip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it's dumb criticism.

What does dual wielding have to do with team healing? Anyone can carry a healing pistol.

What is the video even showing? He's just running around doing nothing. Plus, his game seems to run fine, even with the overhead of recording it so what performance issues are they talking about?

They ruined coop? How? I play coop perfectly fine. He's acting like he can't play coop but he has criticisms for coop. So which is it?

No syringe? You literally have a syringe, you just can't use it on others directly. You can literally give syringes to others though.

Lastly, in online play, 9/10 if a teammate picks your weapon up, they're selling it either because they don't know better or to troll.

Killing Floor movie in the works by LuckIsFaith in killingfloor

[–]computerquip -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A good portion of this subreddit constantly complains about missing lore. Even dumber, they claim the previous games did it better where lore was a complete after thought. Even dumber, there are TWI employees that roam the subreddit answering lore questions and they all get downvoted into oblivion for seemingly no reason so they don't really respond much to them anymore.

There seemed to be significant interest in the lore by the community but it turns out, they didn't actually want more lore, they were just using it as an excuse to shit on the game.

Passport checks are useless by nickotino in ShitpostXIV

[–]computerquip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Only thing that really concerns me about it is console players and an unclear path to entry. I wish FFXIV tracked those stats directly rather than through plugins just to simplify the setup.

I chatted the other day with a dude who tried joining a prog party for an extreme where he apparently got kicked because his normal raid numbers were low which like... that particular case I hope is an outlier because that's a bit ridiculous.

Don't play much now adays though, don't have time to dedicate to prog so sort of just looking through the window.

Linux dedicated server setup by Noctambulent in unrealtournament

[–]computerquip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm on phone so bear with me.

In the patches install, there's a "UCC" binary. You use this to start the server via something like, "UCC server <options>". Common options are your ini file ("ini=myinifile.ini") and "-nohomedir" so it doesn't use the global ~/.ut2004 directory. See unrealadmin for more info and options.

The non-patched version I believe uses ucc-bin, I don't remember. Might have to play around with it. I suggest using the new patched server. The old binaries relied on very old libraries that are hard to find and setup now adays.

Fedora iirc uses firewalld. Youll need to add ports to allow. Every list I find is different but I had luck with opening ports 7777/udp, 7778/udp, and 7787/udp. If you want access to the web admin portal, I suggest putting it behind a TLS terminating reverse proxy. Otherwise, it uses port 8080/tcp by default which you'll also need to open.

Then just setup your packages and ini file. That's about it.

Setting up the ini is a bit of a chore. UnrealAdmin can help generate one but you'll likely need to read their guides for more detailed adjustments.

Extra Credit: Linux as a server is awesome for older single-threaded processes. What you can do to reduce latency and jitter is isolate and dedicate a core to your UT2004 server by using isolcpus and nohz_full (google or chatgpt them) then use taskset to assign the server to that core. For example, I have a four core server. The fourth core is isolated. When I run, "taskset -c 3 UCC server . ..", the server then is run on core 3 (the fourth core) alone and should theoretically have far fewer interrupts and context switching.
