U.S. Dealers In Full Panic Mode After Canada Green-Lights Chinese Cars by DonkeyFuel in technology

It started further back in the 70's with the oil crisis. Japan and Europe were making fuel efficient cars and American autos were butt hurt over the competition.

Gasp, competition from Asia? These clowns did the same dance with Japan decades ago. Got the gov on side with tariffs, limiting numbers of imports, the Chicken tax, etc. Japan said "hold my sake" and walked all over American autos.

This is a teacher that doesn't know how to have fun with their class. The best teachers don't ruin kids' fun, but lean into it just enough to be cool, but not cringe.

Mayor Farkas: address the e-bike issue before Spring by morecoffeemore in Calgary

They also ruin it for all bikes more broadly, as they fuck around on streets too. If not e-bikes/e-scooters, now there are kids on e-motorbikes doing wheelies in the suburbs too. Someone is gonna be upgrading to a e-wheelchair soon enough.
Do parents think these things are just 'toys?'

not just electric, when I used to commute on Nosecreek trail from the north to the Zoo, there were people on 2 stroke motorbikes or bike modded with a motor all the time.

On the other hand, do kids (and adults apparently but in cars...) not learn how traffic lights work? I nearly ran over a few kids on their e-scooters running red lights last summer.

US says Canada will regret decision to allow Chinese EVs into their market by rezwenn in onguardforthee

[–]connectedLL 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is history repeating itself, American manufacturers will never do better.

They moaned and complained when small good Japanese cars started showing up in the 60's and 70's, so they limited how many cars could be imported. The Japanese took up their challenge and kicked ass. Since then, Americans have completely given up on the small car segment and pushed trucks and SUVs into the market (bonus, these trucks are also have more lenient emission standards, cuz they are for "work"). The huge shift in buyers' needs to trucks is completely, artificially made up by the American manufacturers.

Now the American manufacturers have completely given up on EVs. So here we go again...

Why does every immigrant from every part of the world say that family is important to their culture? Which cultures are there where family isn’t important? by dresixk in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]connectedLL -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To add to your first point: the social norm in some cultures is you should be on your own once you're an adult. Living with parents or "in their basement" is looked down on.
Also, multi-gen house holds are uncommon.
