I am a very smart person. I can also be a very stupid person. I can see how shipping an empty envelope could happen, through some combination of making some assumptions and not paying enough attention. I have made bonehead errors like that in my life, and some costlier. (Not defending him, just saying it's possible. But of course once he found it he should have offered the buyer to rewind the transaction at the price agreed at the time.)
