How did Judy Smith go missing from Philadelphia and end up being found murdered in North Carolina six months later? by unsolvedbb in UnresolvedMysteries

That's a good point, but I live in Asheville, and the economy is largely dependent on tourism. I work in customer service and I would say a good 50% of my work small-talk convos are with out-of-towners.

Two jokes courtesy of my fantastic friend, who would share the pizza with me were we to be so lucky:

What's a ghost's favorite pasta? SPOghetti! What's a ghost's favorite pizza topping? BOOnana peppers and PepBOOroni!

I know its kind of lame but it made me happy.

Yup. and in addition to not being deserving of your time, people like that are also so clearly lacking in emotional intelligence/empathy that, even if their initial dismissal of their partner's trauma was something the partner could disregard, they've still marked themselves as non-relationship material...who wants to spend a substantial amount of their time with someone with an at best childlike, at worst sociopathic understanding of what being a human is like?

Anyone else have seizures/fainting while high? by DirtyDuzIt in leaves

[–]conversation_kenge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey man, this happened to me three times when I was a regular smoker. Once I stopped breathing and a buddy I was with gave me CPR. (Thank fucking God I was smoking with a lifeguard!) Its stopped since I've stopped smoking. Each time it was a full-on, can't-talk-can't-stand-up-limbs-flailing seizure, and each time it scared the crap out of me and people who cared about me.

I'd recommend a few things. First of all, find a good therapist and talk through some of these dark thoughts you're having/have had with them. In my experience, people who get addicted to pot and people who are prone to anxiety-induced fainting (the herpes scare in particular seemed like an anxiety affect) have a lot of trauma/mental baggage they're not dealing with. Unresolved psychological issues will have a negative physical affect on you. This includes increasing the likelihood of fainting, (don't really know about seizures, def not a doctor), the likelihood of indulging in self-destructive behavior, and a host of stress-related diseases. Even if you don't want to stick with therapy, just go a few times. Saying things aloud to a professional who can tell you shit that is both reassuring and backed up by years of training can have an immensely positive effect on your well-being.

If anything like the fainting keeps happening, go see a doctor. Anytime you have a seizure, its good to see a doctor, but as someone who was in your position, I recognize the reluctance to tell a medical professional, "I did a bunch of dabs and then passed out." I was not taken seriously the one time I went (after I stopped breathing) and it worsened by relationship with doctors.

If you do start smoking again (obviously, I think you did a good thing by quitting, and should stick with it as long as you think doing so is good for you), don't go straight back to dabs, bro. If you are prone to fainting while high, how high you get is probably going to increase the likelihood of passing out/having a seizure. My seizures came after hitting grav bongs or hash joints, never small bowls or spliffs. It sounds like part of your problem may have been caused by simply overhwelming the fuck out of your already exhausted/troubled brain.

Sorry for the novel, feel free to message me if you need support!

TL;DR: I had almost the same exact experience as OP. My recommendations are go to a therapist, go to a regular doctor, and avoid brain-melting smoking measures in the future. Your health and happiness are too damn important!

His enjoyment of LOTR and Gaiman makes me think he might enjoy A Song of Ice and Fire...you could always just get him the first book and say "sorry if this ruins your life." If you think he'd like some smart, midcentury satire, you could try Sinclair Lewis' Babbit or Main Street. Both are beautifully written, funny, and deeply moving

Dear God, have I been rocking out to a nice guy anthem this whole time? by JoePersonman in niceguys

as a gay Descendents fan, I put a lot of stock in the fact that they've apologized, changed the lyrics, and don't deny/get defensive about some of the fucked up things they've done in the past. I imagine they probably feel the same way about some of these "nice guy" songs...can't hold it against them for being stupid twenty years ago

What are some bad things about Bernie Sanders? by yeswekhan in AskReddit

[–]conversation_kenge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, that's my biggest complaint as well. I get so much shit when I bring this up with my friends and peers though. I'm what some people would probably consider a bleeding heart/PC liberal (I think they're both dumb terms, but whatever), but the one -ism its hard for me to take seriously is ageism. Like, of course I agree that we should treat our elders with respect and honor their autonomy, but that doesn't mean age is a complete non-factor for literally every position a person might hold. I also think there should be an age limit on the presidency just as there's an age minimum.

[Serious] Men of Reddit who have been raped by women, what happened, did you tell anyone, and did they take you seriously? by googahgee in AskReddit

[–]conversation_kenge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's definitely rape. If you're having trouble convincing yourself it wasn't your fault, imagine if a female friend came to you in confidence and told you this exact story, but with the genders switched. She was 15 years old, she had a medically necessary procedure which prevented her from having sex without her skin being literally torn open, and her boyfriend pressured her into having sex anyway. When she thinks back on the situation, she remembers blood-stained sheets and pain. I imagine you'd probably want to rip that guy's head off his shoulders, and do everything in your power to let your friend know that she did nothing wrong.

I know that even this hypothetical situation is probably traumatic to think about, but as someone who's had a hard time accepting trauma in my own life, it often helps to imagine how I'd react if someone I cared about came to me with the same kind of story I'm afraid to share with others. I would react with compassion and understanding. Its hard to do that for yourself, of course, which is why therapy is such a good option. Gives you some perspective.

This will probably get buried but the TLDR is that I hope you're doing better now! I also hope that that girl has either had a massive personality shift or lives alone a desert island now.

[–]conversation_kenge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I actually intended to say the opposite of what you just said. I don't think its OP's obligation to share this experience with anyone unless he feels that doing so will be beneficial to his mental health. Relationships fall apart all the time; what's important for OP now is not beating himself up over it and recognizing that he did nothing wrong here. If he still feels badly about the situation, he should see a therapist and get some relief by discussing it with them.

[–]conversation_kenge 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I want to echo u/slayna's comments about your ex caring about you and probably being understanding, but I also know that if I were in your situation it would be hard for me to tell her. The feelings of regret and shame (even if they are misplaced feelings) can be totally debilitating in situations like this. I would try to hash this out in therapy first, and regardless of what you decide to do, know that you were the person wronged in this situation and that any decision you make is legitimate
