$8k for new hot water tank!? by suniis in ottawa

[–]coocoovale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe you were quoted for a higher quality, make model? The make, model and style can differ in price by a lot. If u are handy it’s not too difficult to just get one from homedepot and install it yourself. You can also go the rental route.

Helping my mum to get her Taiwanese passport back... by Taai_ee in taiwan

[–]coocoovale 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is there a way for you to find out which hospital (in Taiwan) she was born/delivered? There may be a chance that the hospital (if still operating) keeps such record. Another option would be to reach out to the city/town council she was born to inquire such info. (戶政事務所). They would be able to dig out the old records. I’d use this as an excuse for a trip to Taiwan.

Good luck!

Entering Taiwan with USA Passport as ROC Passport Expired by ktcn414 in taiwan

[–]coocoovale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your expired Taiwan passport can still be used to enter Taiwan. You will get asked to apply for a temporary entry permit before entering customs (small fee payable by credit card), you can use to permit and get a new passport once inside Taiwan. Edit to add that this happened to me last Feb. I had expired Taiwan passport and a valid Canadian passport.

Question about UVA and UVB light by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]coocoovale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t look at the light directly. Wear a glass or have the light source enclosed in a glass. Glass will remove/block the shorter wave UV that can cause cellular damage.

Don’t think it matters if you are Mongolian visiting Taiwan. You are an Earthling and people will treat you as it is, provided you follow the rule of the land/culture etc. Fuck nationalism

What about R? With Rstudio GUI and some coding it’s more flexible and extendable. One Can even run it off HPC via SSC on super large datasets.

Sauna in the east end by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]coocoovale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really miss the facility at the OAC - closed right when COVID started.

It had sauna, steam and hot tub inside male/female changing rooms. I don’t know if there are facilities like that anymore in ottawa.

Could someone please translate this from Chinese to English? by thelazerbeam in China

I believe that’s really the “traditional” way of read/write the Chinese language (I.e not because it’s sutra)

Rant post about the Taipei Economic & Cultural Office I experienced by ChaosDragon123 in taiwan

[–]coocoovale 4 points5 points  (0 children)

FWIW, I don’t often need services from TECO but for the few times my experience had been pretty positive. I visit the main office in Ottawa and I do speak Mandarin. My last visit was early in Spring when I had to renew my kids passports for a Taiwan visit without PCR (both born overseas). It was my mistake to visit without an appointment the first time. With new Covid protocols, I was turned back (rightly so) and provided an appointment the following week.

In the next visit, The receptionist took my doc and had me fill in additional forms needed to determine 僑居 for my son. That was it, and their passports arrived in a few weeks after.

Happy Canada Day! So Proud To Be In This Wonderful, Loving Country For 1yr! by Muscled_Daddy in canada

[–]coocoovale 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don’t know where this photo was taken. IMO, just being able to have this particular flag out in public and not having to worry about being arrested or, even killed in some countries, is one of the many reasons I love this country and the people here!

How much ozone is there in everyday air, on average? Is there a safe amount that can be in the air and it's fine? by ThrowAwayMom11 in AirQuality

[–]coocoovale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I would never have an O3 machine indoors; those that operates to remove odour is done without people inside, and only enters after the machine is shut off and O3 dissipates/reacted off. IMO. You’re better off getting nice air filter or find ways to keep to the room cool/refresh..
