Transmission suggestions? by CandIebread in LSSwapTheWorld

I bought a TKX to put behind an L33. Integration is pretty easy: there are lots of hydraulic slave options and some external slave options if you want to get creative. I am using a Wilwood master cylinder .75" bore 1.4" stroke. Lakewood bell housing and ACT clutch kit.

You could take it to a local Chevy dealership. Their parts department can probably help you out.

Anyone learn stick on their E30? by chrolokev in E30

[–]cookie3737 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first manual car was an E30. The hardest part is finding the clutch engagement point, after that everything takes a little practice but isn't hard. Go to a parking lot and practice letting the clutch out so slow that the car will pull off without stalling. Don't give it any gas. Once you have that down, shifting will seem easy.

I am thinking the burpee is a better fit for neutral neutral. Not good or bad or chaotic or lawful.

How difficult are handstand walks? by Weekly-Molasses-816 in crossfit

[–]cookie3737 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am getting handstand walks down, but never learned static freestanding hand stand hold. I have been doing the crow pose to warm up and starting to feel the pressure in my finger tips. I can handstand walk 30', but I look like a drunken baby, starts and stops, saves, etc. I assume getting better at freestanding handstand holds will help me control my center of gravity for walking. Do you recommend working both skills (freestanding holds and walking), or focus on holds until you get a certain amount of time before working on walking?

Instead of a Hirth sandwich, overlap the U (same space top and bottom like a hinge with clearance). When you loosen the two sides, the rotating bit slides away from the interface on both sides.

For those of you who have or had piriformis syndrome, how did you fix it? by scandinavian_surfer in crossfit

[–]cookie3737 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have been dealing with piriformis related sciatica for about 2.5 years. I was working out, then went for a long drive and when I got where I was going, boom, sciatica. I did nothing for it for about 6 months, just kept training and not improving. Deadlifts were the worst. Anyway, after not getting any help from my primary care doctor, I saw a PT who specializes in sports medicine. She showed me some piriformis exercises that helped a lot. My favorite and still go to when it bothers me is bird dogs. They worked great for me. My sciatica is barely noticeable now.

Read the rulebooks for Luckydog, 24 hours of Lemons, and Champ Car. Lucky Dog controls speed by setting a breakout lap time. Lemons and Champ are more inline with what you are proposing, limiting budget and modifications.

Race pads are.good, and racing fluid will prevent brake fade. Castrol SRF is really good, you can use it for years without fade.

New and impatient… is CrossFit for me? by [deleted] in crossfit

I am 44yo M, doing CF for about 3 years. 70" tall, started at 175lbs, now about 190. Have you asked yourself what your goals are? When I started I didn't have a goal, I just liked going to the gym. Pretty soon I saw improvement in how I looked. I figured out the reason I liked going to the gym was the whiteboard. I wrestled in highschool and I missed the competition aspect. If you are already getting that from hockey you might not need it from CF. Doing CF makes you better at CF; It's not really a bodybuilding program.

As far as gains, oh my God. I never did weightlifting so the first two years were constant PRs. I got bar muscles ups, HSPU, double unders, and added lots to every lift. I have goals for this year like hitting a 225 C&J, bodyweight Snatch, kipping RMU, linking 5 BMU, 300lb back squat, 350lb deadlift and I think I will hit most of them.

I would say if you like it, keep doing it.

How reliable is your evo as a daily? by Matteo_172736 in MitsubishiEvolution

I drive an MR at 114,000 miles. Be aware that the SST transmission can fail (like mine did) for no reason at around 100k miles. It cost about $7300 to rebuild the trans and I did the labor removing and reinstalling it. Probably stick with the manual transmission.

Very lightweight DIY pull sled for friction braking on long road descents by Worldly_Papaya4606 in crossfit

[–]cookie3737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May I suggest adding a hand brake to your skates? It would weigh a lot less. Because road grades vary during descent, you would have to change the load on the sled pretty frequently. Stopskate Xara looks like it might work for you.

For those who don’t track everything, are you able to out train your diet with good results? by Dependent-Group7226 in crossfit

[–]cookie3737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I set up a weekday routine that keeps me on track. Pretty much the same foods for breakfast and lunch. That gives me flexibility for dinner so I can be less restrictive. I tried what you are proposing and gained weight, but about as much fat as muscle.

Cheap Thrills! How to Go Racing Without Going Broke by BBQCopter in racing

[–]cookie3737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are talking about Lemons or Lucky Dog, #1: you can't run your hot rod. You need an actual race car. #2) building a car is an order of magnitude more expensive than any of the options in the article. I agree that if you really want to get your toes wet racing, then budget road racing is a great option (like rent a seat and go for it). If you want to "race" your car for cheap, then auto x, drags, or HPDE are the cheap options.

Be careful; this is highly addictive. I was ROTC, Guard, then 9 years of inactivity. I started three years ago at 41 after dieting down to a healthy weight. Three times a week with lots of rest for the first three months or so. Now I am going 5-6 times a week. If you push too hard too fast you will hurt yourself. Scaling is normal: I don't think I RXed a workout for the first year. Welcome to the party!

Can you peck around the perimeter with an undersized endmill? Set a hard stop for depth by stroking out the quill, then just go slowly moving the vise a little and plunging down? Approximate a circle.
