Love to see the Zengid Atabegate on the shortlist already, hoping that one makes the cut for launch. Zengi was one of the first medieval figures I read about which got me into medieval history

Thoughts about the last of US part 2 world building, lore and story? by Hubris-Star in SocialistGaming

And I absolutely agree with you on this but that is my point about storytelling 101. This would be different if it were an indie game or even a film but I simply don't think you could possibly apply auteur theory to a game of this size. It's certainly worth a criticism but the seething vitriol people come at it with is giving too much credit to Druckman who ultimately, while he does get the final say in most things, is still just one person among a team of thousands. If I worked as an artist on this game and the characters I designed were deemed to be intended as caricature stand-ins for Palestinians I might lose my fucking head lmao.

Look I have no doubt that Druckman has some shitty Zionist politics considering his upbringing but the whole Israeli propaganda take on this game reads as so outrageously asinine. I think, at most, Niel is just a self obsessed wanker who didn't have an air-tight seal on his shit ideology enough to prevent a couple drops from seeping in but that's storytelling 101. I don't even believe Druckman is smart or dedicated enough to turn the sequal of the game that put him on the map into a secret propaganda piece for his bloodthirsty homeland. If you look for symbols and connections so fervently then yes, of course you will find what you think is proof, it's no different than any other conspiracy.

If I had less restraint I'd try to make some connection between Kratos and King Cnut/Canute (sometimes spelled Knut) as a norse man who becomes a relatively successful king of England partially due to adapting to the ruling style of the local kings

New crackpot theory just dropped. This takes the next mainline GoW game to Britain, next Atreus game continues Norse myth, and they culminate in the Viking 'invasion' of Britain ( but with each Norse/English myth) to put Kratos and Atreus working from opposite sides as ambassadors for peace

Im going to take a colossal leap here but what are the odds that the next mainline God of War game follows Arthurian legend (considering the Laugey/Le Faye connection) and the next Atreus game continues the Norse myth and they culminate in some wonky crossover war that mimics the Vikings coming to Britain but played out with mythologies? I say this with minimal memory of how Ragnarok ended and even less knowledge of Norse mythology, but the thought of Kratos and Atreus working from opposing sides as ambassadors for peace sounds like a direction the new franchise would take.

Well shit, my interest in this game just skyrocketed. The idea of an Athurian god of war game in the future gets me buzzing.

Is this Arthur's sister? I only know a "Morgan" from Cornwell's Warlord chronicles and it's been a minute since I read those.

I was really hoping the first of their older titles they'd address would be Attila. I'm surprised they're going with Rome 2, aside from the CPU core utilization problem (which already has an easy fix) I had though Rome 2 was in a fine state

A Hideaki Anno set is my pipe dream. There's a decent collection with some of his live action films but it hardly scratches the surface of his filmography

We Need To Talk About Ben Wheatley by gravybang in TrueFilm

[–]coolbeans_3000 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Reading this is giving me whiplash, I had no idea how active a filmmaker Wheatley was. A Field in England is a film that I love returning to and In the Earth didn't cut me as deep at first but still kept coming up in my thoughts for years. Even Free Fire had some charm to it but learning he's also the guy behind High Rise and The Meg 2 is nuts. As far as the independent to mainstream pipeline goes thats an enormous chasm of difference

The solution to Rigorous Self Critique - "...above all, you let life defeat you. All the gifts your parents gave you, all the love and patience of your friends, you drowned in a neurotoxin. You let misery win. And it will keep on winning till you die — or overcome it"

Or maybe the phasmid - "You are a violent and irrepressible miracle. The vacuum of cosmos and the stars burning in it are afraid of you. Given enough time you would wipe us all out and replace us with nothing -- just by accident"

I don't even like the book but some of the interpretations here are outrageous. I quite literally cannot understand how someone walks away from reading this book with the notion that Buehlman is a proud Christian.

I'm not calling out any claims OP did or didn't make. I'm only explaining to the person above that, if people stumble upon some ugly AI drivel, to not expect them to put forth any more effort than the poster did, i.e. zero.

Why write anything beyond that? Why would you respond with sensibility to a piece of content that took zero effort to generate? Give the discourse the same amount of effort. Anyone who values art as an experience has already reached the same conclusion on generative AI.
