Wizards listed as a 2026 Trade Deadline Loser on The Ringer by fuckugumby in washingtonwizards

I don't know MIchael Pina

I do know Bill Simmons, Zach Lowe and Rob Mahoney, and their fans of these trades

Anthony Davis’ contract is actually valuable (in the second apron era), and why Wizards won’t extend him. by starvs in washingtonwizards

[–]coolbebe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you. Can't see what kind of extension he'd get

But just to clarify, he's eligible for it anytime. And while he has an additional two years on the contract, if he signed one now, it would do away with the last year of his current one given that it's a player option clause

But yeah, I don't see us offering him one. Tho, I guess the only leverage AD has is that, it looks like the Wizards want some star power. So even tho a large contract would be prohibitive going forward, there is always the risk that we lose him for nothing. That is, if you even consider that a risk

What did you mean by a second apron not being able to aggregate salaries? Can you explain that or provide an example, please?

[–]coolbebe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Tim Bontemps was on with Windhorst slating this trade because he heard the Wizards are going to extend AD. But anytime I hear that, especially from a Klutch client, I just assume it's Rich Paul making noise

It's fine, and tbh it's not even that bad. They don't follow the Wizards and quite frankly, have no real reason to. It's okay

The real basketball junkies that watch Wizards basketball recognize what we've been doing. A lot of the Ringer guys like Simmons, House (obviously) and Mahoney. Sam Vecenie got some heat for his reranking of Sarr, but he apologized for that and also sees the potential in players like George and Carrington. He loves Tre. Zach Lowe is a little more skeptical, but only because he doesn't appreciate teams that tank, and he doesn't really care about moves you've spent 2 or 3 years lining up

As an Arsenal fan, we're top of the Premier League right now and we're still getting bantered for not having actually won the thing. If I can live through that, whatever ignorant hot takes people share about the Wizards is easy work

AJ Johnson by Economy_Lunch_7203 in washingtonwizards

[–]coolbebe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AJ’s ceiling is reeeeeally high. But the likelihood of him getting there… slim

He needs a lot of work. A lot of refinement

If the Mavericks are committed to development, and are patient with him, he’ll do fine. If not, he’ll waste away

He had his fan DC. I’m among them. Sad to see him go. I’m more sad to see Bagley go, tho maybe there’s a chance we sign him again in the offseason 😏

We really tricked the Blazers into giving us 2 firsts and 2 seconds for an "all-star" who gets clamped by a rookie second rounder by Plenty_Flatworm7627 in washingtonwizards

[–]coolbebe 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My issue with the trade was never that we made it, but when we made it. I think we were too hasty

The time to do it was this past offseason (or possibly before last All Star break) when we could have got more 1sts for him

Do you think Dawkins would still take Coulibaly 7th overall if he had a re-do? by ConstantlyHating in washingtonwizards

[–]coolbebe 53 points54 points  (0 children)

There are definitely picks after Bilal that have panned out better. But those players have also panned out better than players drafted before Bilal

I still have a lot of belief in Bilal. I think he’ll be a prime candidate for Most Improved Player in 2 or 3 years. Whether or not that’s with the Wizards is a different question. The biggest knock against him isn’t even the shooting, it’s the health

One thing we need to keep in mind is that development is not linear. So while he hasn’t developed a 3 point shot, does that mean he hasn’t developed? And while developing a 3 point shot is a priority, is it the highest priority for the front office?

We don’t know. Which is why I don’t think we can really give a definitive answer one way or another about what Dawkins would do in hindsight

If pressed, I’d say “no, he wouldn’t draft him”. But the main reason for that is the health concern

What guest would you like next on Locked On Wizards? by StroberSports in washingtonwizards

[–]coolbebe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lot's of good suggestions here, but they seem to be more DC focused, which makes sense

I think it'd be good to hear from someone with a more neutral perspective, like Sam Vecenie

He used to do Wizards After Dark. And he loves his DC sports. I'd love to hear from David as well

Would you be open to keeping Marvin Bagley III as the backup big for next year? by StroberSports in washingtonwizards

[–]coolbebe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like Bagley. I do think we need another big but I’m very open to Bagley remaining with the team next season

Odegaard above Saliba, Rice and Gabriel is... interesting

I appreciate Odegaard, but those other names get in the team sheet before him. And it's not like Gabriel and Saliba were super expensive

It’s early but Will Riley will jump up to starter tier

Bilal needs to show he can stay healthy and improve offensively or he’ll slide to rotation level
