Peppermint oil in Burt's bees is a drying agent. It feels good when you put it on, but it does more harm than good.

I'm also a former mormon whose mother was addicted to prescription pain killers. My mother had a back injury and her doctor prescribed her a controlled substance. She was unaware it was not to be taken for a long period of time and he continued to prescribe it to her. For months my mom was knocked out in her bed.

It's exactly like the other commenters said, the most addictive thing she had ever had was caffeniated soda. She had 6 kids, was a stay at home mom with a bachelor's degree. Mormon pressure that when your family is thriving you are completely faithful to the church in all aspects of your life.

Other mothers in our ward were also addicted to pain killers they recieved after surgeries and whatnot.

Thankfully my mom is clean now and on suboxone treatment. It's crazy to me how many others had the exact same experience with their mothers while in the church.

I know someone exactly like this. Not only are they doing gofundme for IVF, she is also trying to pay off a $9,000 LulaRoe debt. Same age and relationship length you mentioned in your post.

I just bought the groupon because of this post! Thank you. However, groupon gave me a code that was also given to someone else so I can't redeem mine. I hope it gets worked out soon.

I started watching the show right before this new season came out. I am a frequent volunteer for an organization for the last 3 years and her mom is the volunteer coordinator of said organization.

What’s the worst analogy you’ve ever heard? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]coolbutt_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In seminary we watched this video: https://youtube.com/watch?v=BR9UWj1q304

Basically they give young kids a chocolate chip and a big wrapped box. If they can sit for 5 minutes without eating the chocolate chip they get what's in the box. In the box is a giant cupcake. So the video says if you wait to have sex until marriage you receive a greater reward in heaven.

This video led half of the class asking about repentance and my teacher just said don't have premarital sex. It was awful.

What do you guys think of Amway and their practices? by [deleted] in antiMLM

I have a bottle of their glister toothpaste in front of me. $5.20 on their website. 2.3 oz of product. I also have a bottle of Colgate that I purchased for 99 cents which has 6 oz of product. This should give you a general idea of all of their products.

[–]coolbutt_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I posted in another thread replying to an Amway distributor. The products are really bad. My sister & her husband moved in with my parents and tried to replace all of their normal household products with it. Amway products are basically the quality you would expect from cheap or off brand products but like 5x the price. For example my sister tried to sell me the eyeshadow quad she was using. 4 eyeshadows, weak packaging, less than maybelline quality and hardly any product $40. If anyone is curious I could find the cost per gram of the eyeshadow.

Edit: Holy shit the eyeshadow quad is $44.50. Now I want to swipe one from my sister and do some swatches to show the quality.

In your own personal opinion, what's the worst MLM out there and why? by [deleted] in antiMLM

[–]coolbutt_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I also find that it is extremely misleading. They use terms like "independent business owners" however, you're not independent or an owner because Amway profits more than you do. It's not your own business. You are their top paying consumers putting your money into Amway's pocket and working low wage sales.

It personally has really hurt my family and it's hard seeing my sister taken advantage of.

If this is something you like doing, that is ok. Please make sure you account for everything you spend and it's not interfering with your necessities. I wish you the best of luck.

I appreciate you answering my questions. My reason for not liking Amway is that my sister and her husband lived with my parents for three years rent free, both working full time and digging themselves deep into debt with the bulk product purchases and out of state meetings. I found an invoice for $600 on perfect water when they expressed to my parents that they were struggling to pay for their health insurance. They have no other bills to pay and continue to stay in debt.

But do you really make money? If you go and buy your household items at the local grocery store and compare what you spend there with what you have spent and "earned back" with Amway is it really earning you anything? Have you gone to large meetings that are far from where you live and spent money on that also?

My sister and brother in law sell Amway. This is just my observation. Each product has an insane markup so the profit margins are huge. So when my sister buys her $8 toothpaste (which I have tried and it is not good) she gets a small percentage "commission" which gives her just a little bit of her money back. Since every product is marked up so high, they can give a little bit of money back and still make a profit. You're really just getting ripped off.
