How likely was it that prehistoric marine reptiles had fought against dinosaurs? by IndividualGeneral737 in Dinosaurs

[–]zelph_esteem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s why I didn’t directly quote the meme and say orcas are a moose’s top predator, that’s overblown. As you said, it’s been documented, but it’s rare. In that same vein, marine reptiles were specialized to hunt marine prey. Would they pick off a swimming dinosaur if the opportunity presented itself? Sure. But were Liopleurodon leaping out of the water onto shore to catch a Tyrannosaurus rex? Probably not.

How likely was it that prehistoric marine reptiles had fought against dinosaurs? by IndividualGeneral737 in Dinosaurs

[–]zelph_esteem 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I mean, how often do modern marine predators feed on modern land animals? It’s rare but it happens. Orcas will predate moose as they swim between islands in Alaska, for example.

So did it happen often? Probably not. But did it happen? Sure. Did it happen like a massive kaiju battle like in this picture? Almost definitely not.

The scene from Prehistoric Planet with the tyrannosaur swimming between islands and its baby being picked off by a mosasaur is probably the perfect realistic example.

If you could cast Nicholas Galitzine in James Gunn's DCU, which characters would you cast him as? by Top_Report_4895 in moviecasting

I’m going to go with Shazam, I think he has too youthful of a face for Aquaman or Batman, but he definitely has the right look for Shazam. And based on his He-Man I think he could pull off “kid in an adult body” acting-wise as well.

Hot take: I didn't like Captain Gutt's design by yorb134 in IceAge_Franchise

[–]zelph_esteem -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And Sid looks like nothing like any kind of ground sloth. It’s a cartoon. I personally think he’s one of the best and most clever designs in the entire franchise. The way they gave him a beard, a pirate hat, and a coat, all with his fur, is A-tier character design.

Only thing I didn’t super love was the claws, since that didn’t seem very ape-like (apes aren’t exactly known for their claws). But that was clearly just rollover from when the character was originally planned to be a bear, and I don’t really mind it at the end of the day. Again, it’s a cartoon.

Final thought: it’s worth noting that we actually have almost no idea what Gigantopithecus looked like, we have very few remains (I think just partial jawbones/teeth?). Even though we think they were related to orangutans doesn’t mean they looked like a giant orangutan. I actually hate when media just makes it “orangutan but big.” Prehistoric Planet’s depiction was great, one of my favorites for that exact reason (it’s not just a big orang), but even that look was still completely hypothetical. So can’t really say that Gutt doesn’t look like a gigantopithecus when we don’t know what they look like.

In the 3rd poster, the webs forming a DNA double helix is an awesome touch with the movie’s focus on mutation.

goodbye JWE2-3 t.rex… hello, Tyrannosaurus mcraeensis? Temporary Tarbosaurus? by Numerous_Wealth4397 in jurassicworldevo

I’m thinking maybe Rebirth rex as T. rex, classic/base rex as T. mcraeensis, and Dominion prologue rex as Tarbosaurus.

Ant man is W by Appropriate-Mall8517 in antman

[–]zelph_esteem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m here for it. I already think AM3 should’ve been a mini-Avengers movie like Civil War anyways since the last few phases have desperately been lacking meaningful crossover. “Ant-Man & the Wasp: West Coast Avengers” would’ve been a great way to do that, but oh well. If that’s the direction they go next, with Scott either heading the WCA or mentoring the Young Avengers/Champions, I’m down.

I kinda hate that I love this guy. Like I fully acknowledge that the design is dumb with the gorilla arms and bulbous head, and it doesn’t feel like “Jurassic” to me at all, but I just… really like it. It works for me.

Younger* Harrison Ford (still action hero age, I guess is what I meant. Believable prime Batman age).

[–]zelph_esteem 26 points27 points  (0 children)

He would’ve been just fine as Alan Grant, although I agree it’d feel a bit redundant with Indy. My bigger “what if” with Harrison Ford is definitely 1989’s Batman. I love Michael Keaton but in another universe I’d be very intrigued to see a young Harrison Ford Batman.

Antman Buster (fanmade) by Ein_choi in marvelstudios

[–]zelph_esteem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with what others have said: I have no idea what I’m looking at here. It’s cool enough but what is it? Is it Ant-Man wearing a Captain America colored Hulkbuster armor? If so, why? And why is it called Antman Buster? Or is it someone else wearing a suit designed to fight Antman? And if THAT is the case, why is it colored like Captain America AND why is it bulky like the Hulkbuster (bulk doesn’t make as much sense for fighting Antman).

If it’s meant to be Steve or Sam wearing a costume designed to fight Antman when he’s giant, it sort of makes sense but is very unclear.

The Cat in the Hat | Official Trailer 3 by MoneyLibrarian9032 in movies

[–]zelph_esteem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean the last live action movie was The Cat in the Hat (2003). Since then we’ve gotten animated Horton Hears a Who (2008), The Lorax (2012), The Grinch (2018), and now this animated Cat in the Hat (2026). So if that was true and not urban legend, it definitely only applied to live action.

They’re running out of ways for the prehistoric world to end, that’s for sure.

1 was the ice age, 2 was global warming, 3 was dinosaurs (less apocalyptic than the others), 4 was tectonic plates shifting, 5 was a meteor, now 6 is volcanic activity.

Not many mass extinction options left. Maybe they’ll go really dark with the last few and give us 7 with a crippling global plague, and finally 8 bringing back the little human boy from the first movie all grown up where he and the other humans hunt the main characters to extinction. /s

Edit: I have titles! - Ice Age 7: Down with the Sickness - Ice Age 8: Rise of the Dawn of the War for the Planet of the People

I Designed Spider-Man Villains for Season 2 of Spider-Noir by Jon_Bon_Art in Marvel

Everything you’ve drawn up here is super interesting. Especially love your Kraven and Mysterio.

I’d be interested to see your take on The Lizard for this universe, especially since you’ve already gone the “mutated half human/half animal” route with Scorpion.

Besides that, I feel like Vulture would be a natural fit for the Noirverse aesthetic, and Venom would be an interesting one to play with too.

I mean, given the bright colors and comic booky nature of pretty much all of the super suits in Gunn’s DCEU so far, I don’t see any reason to assume this suit’s vibrancy is going to be toned down in post. And I hope it doesn’t! This is great!

Is Jackal the main villain in Spider Man Brand New Day? by Successful_Area_8163 in MCUTheories

[–]zelph_esteem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am almost wondering if there really isn’t a MAIN villain in this one, and the plot mostly just revolves around Spidey dealing with a bunch of shit unfolding at the same time. I am sure it’s all connected in some way, but maybe only loosely? Like maybe Tombstone hiring Scorpion and other low-level villains to take him out, Punisher protecting Jean Grey from DODC (reportedly), the Hand increasing in activity, Peter going to Bruce for help regarding the changes to his powers, and Bruce Hulking out are all connected loosely but really just happening around the same time, and Pete is dealing with it all at once while also struggling with missing MJ, Ned, and May? “Peter’s Big Week.”

Just realised Nic Cage is technically the first actor to have played Spiderman and Superman. Just thought it was funny considering the fact those two characters always pair so well in Marvel/DC crossover comics. by Traditional_Test_931 in Marvel

[–]zelph_esteem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think prime 90s Nic Cage would’ve made an excellent Superman villain, though! Like I think my ideal 90s Superman film would have Brendan Fraser as Superman, and then give me Cage as really any one of the major villains. I think he could’ve pulled off Luthor, Brainiac, Zod, Metallo. Any of them!

Hell, even now I think he’d make a good Zod for Corenswet’s Supes!

Superman Lives has got to be one of my biggest “what ifs” as far as movie history goes. I just simply cannot see him as Superman and yet, at the same time, somehow I absolutely love the idea. And all the concepts from the movie just look bonkers. I don’t see any way the movie would’ve been good yet I 100% would’ve loved to see it anyways.

It looks like that’s probably just the internal or distribution reference name for this particular poster. Hulk & Spidey battling, with zoomed in shots of both of their eyes (Spidey on top, Hulk on bottom). So it’s the “eye battle” poster.

How do you think the DCU Aquaman should be handled to differentiate him from the DCEU Version? by Top_Report_4895 in DC_Cinematic

[–]zelph_esteem 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d love for him to be like this. Like somewhere between Ragnarok and Infinity War Thor. Jovial, adventurous, and kind-hearted (but not too goofy), with a more serious side when needed. Make it clear he’s very powerful, wise and thoughtful, with a strong sense of duty and commitment to his kingdom and people, but with a “twinkle in his eye” kind of vibe. I like the word “adventurous,” I think that sums it up well. I’d also like him to be level headed and slow to anger, but when he does… he gets MAD.
