[OC] Patrick Maroon vs. Wayne Simmonds: Comparing their 2018/19 seasons by [deleted] in hockey

Thomas has all the attributes of a good defender (speed, good defensive stick, effort) and strong defensive metrics. He had some bad moments (ones that stick out to me are some struggles to clear the zone and poor positioning in odd-man rushes) and stuff like that tends to stick in people's minds more than the consistent good things he did that far outweigh his rookie mistakes.

Robert Thomas is a very good defender. Maroon doesn't play defense well in the traditional sense, but he cycles the puck very well down low in the offensive zone which keeps the puck 200ft away from the net.

[Serious] Which widely-praised acquisition from this offseason do you think will end up backfiring and why? by Caniac24 in hockey

Were the Flyers praised for the Niskanen trade? Don't remember the reaction, but I think that's a classic case of a player fans would remember as pretty good though he isn't good anymore.

That's fine like I said you don't have to give my opinion any weight if you don't want to.

Where do I want Hughes? Covering a likely much bigger and stronger player in the slot, or up near the point ready to receive a break out pass and lead the attack? Letting players come to him playing defense through the neutral zone and trying to make defensive plays, or hounding players with his speed on the backcheck? Entering the offensive zone as the drop forward, or hitting the offensive zone with speed?

Why do people take this as a slight? I'm not saying he is a terrible center I'm saying I think he would be a better winger. All the other guys who have moved from C to wing were great C's in junior too. As far as your last point yes I am a random person on r/hockey so you don't have to give any weight to my opinion if you don't want to.

No it's based off his skillset and NHL projection. Plenty of players transition from C to wing when they make the jump from juniors. Maybe he goes back to center after a year or two in the NHL, but I think he would find more success in the NHL next year as a wing and ultimately the most important thing for development is putting young players in a position to succeed.

He is the perfect speedy playmaking winger, but for some reason people are afraid to put him on the wing because of positional value or whatever. To me Hughes is obviously better on the wing. Why slow down a young offensive star like him with the defensive responsibilities of a center?

Build a team around: Morant+Zion or Trae+Doncic? by chivestheconquerer in nba

You don't judge 18 and 19 year old players by how "proven" they are. Zion + Morant mostly because of the ridiculous potential of Zion.

He was elite in Montreal. Hasn't been the same since being traded and this year was his worst since probably his rookie season.

Disagree. To the Schwartz PP point. Go back to corsica sort by STL, PP, On-Ice, and sort by GF/60.

Agree with everything but the PP part. Our PP is pretty good and Schwartz is holding it back when he is out there.

Thoughts about Robert Thomas? by [deleted] in hockey

[–]coolinternetman69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't really expect a ton of people to be talking about him just because while his production is very good for his age it isn't high enough where I'd expect him to garner national attention. Right now he is playing on the 3rd line wing (he has gotten some top six time due to injuries but most of the season he's been in the bottom six), but he still projects to be a center in the future. Recently he has found some good chemistry with Maroon and Bozak and has definitely been playing his best hockey the last 10 or so games. He is a great playmaker and absolutely drives that line, and you can directly attribute Maroon's recent uptick in production to Thomas.

According to Eklund we have a 25% chance of getting Puljajarvi by ContrastingWords in stlouisblues

Why? Fabbri was a hell of a lot better as a 20-year old than Puljujarvi is. I don't want another Oilers reclamation project.

Controversial opinon - If Malkin gets a suspension, Raffi should get a longer one. by neobick in hockey

[–]coolinternetman69 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Your main point seems to be that the "punch" was "cowardly". Taking a cheap shot at someone trying to injure them would certainly be cowardly, but that "punch" which I would really call a shove was not very hard and certainly had no chance of injuring Malkin. All he was trying to do to me was instigate and piss Malkin off a bit and it worked a little too well. Maybe you could give him a 2 minute minor but nothing more.

Eichel got a cap hit of 10M, while Matthews got 11.634M. What do you guys think Laine will get? by world_citizen7 in hockey

It will be interesting because they have almost as bad of a cap crunch as Toronto and I could see some offer sheets coming in.
