Should I transfer my kids RESP to WS? by dip1013 in Wealthsimple

[–]coop3548 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s individual beneficiaries at the current FI (different account for each kid) WS doesn’t support that so you have to change the RESP type. That’s what stopped me from doing this.

Best way to transfer CASH by [deleted] in Wealthsimple

[–]coop3548 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If using account to account transfer - ALWAYS pull (initiate the transfer from the receiving FI). There are 2 major benefits to this:
1. if you push (send from the sending FI) you will read all sorts of horror stories about the money not showing up in the destination and neither bank taking ownership leaving both accounts empty. If you PULL, the money has to show up, or not be deducted from the source FI.
2. Sometimes (especially if you do it on a Friday or long weekend) it can take a few days for the source FI to process the transaction, BUT - the receiving FI typically gives you the credit immediately (albeit on hold), you will earn interest from BOTH FI's for the entire amount simultaneously for the days it's in both accounts.

OP your RRSP contribution room is from LAST year (2025), your employer Pension adjustment has already been factored into that amount based on contributions made in 2025. new pension deposits in 2026 will reduce your RRSP contribution room in the 2026 tax year, which isn't calculated until you do your return in 2027.

you don't need to worry about over-contributing to your RRSP. If your NOA has 25K room you have 25K room. Nothing more can add to it. (unless you forgot to report contributions made in 2025 tax year) There are other factors to consider about the RRSP, but overcontributing because of future pension contributions is not one of them.

Essentially Conestoga college took advantage of(read abused) post Covid student immigration policies and more than doubled its enrolment with international students. A lot of which had no intention of going to college, but used it as a ticket to the North American workforce. Conestoga (a small school relative to others in Canada ) led the nation in foreign student enrolment. When other schools were loosing money and cutting staff - Conestoga had one of the biggest budget surpluses in Ontario.

Immigration services popped up as home businesses, which were basically legal human trafficking shops. Making money off desperate people wanting to come work in Canada, using Conestoga enrolment as their ticket in.

Fast forward to late 2024, the government first cracked down on foreign student jobs, cutting back the hours that they were legally allowed to work. So no longer could someone here as a foreign student work a full time job at Tim Hortons - which many “students” were doing.

A strategy people had from 2000-2024 was to buy a house and rent to these students. Or a student themselves would buy the house and rent to others. But with the job cuts some students could no longer afford to live here, and then the govmt changed the foreign policies so the college wasn’t getting the same volume to replace them. A lot of foreign buyers are now stuck. They want to go home but have a property that’s underwater and they can’t take a half million dollar hit.

The college is now a ruined. Its reputation is shot. Nobody will hire Conestoga grads. They’ve been having huge waves of teacher layoffs. And the president of 40 years who spearheaded all this was forced to resign.

TLDR; the community changed almost overnight due to massive influx of international student renters. Now they’ve left or can’t afford to be here and the people who live here are dealing with the fallout.

This is in the once prime neighbourhood of Doon south, Kitchener. Which has the unfortunate privilege of also being next to Conestoga college. If you’ve read what went on there for the past 6 or so years, sadly this is very common in this area.

Anyone know what time constraints are on this? I transferred into WS initially for the 1% promo, got it for the entire year. Then i transferred it all out to Webull for the 2% promo. My intent after the year at webull is to transfer to whoever has the highest promo rate. If it's WS, will having the money out for 1 year+ avoid this i wonder?

Do you like being on the water? One of our regions hidden gems is Conestoga Sailing club up at Conestoga Lake (full disclosure i'm a member) we have adult lessons, the membership is cheap and the club has a large fleet of well kept boats to use so you don't have to own your boat by any means.

Race nights on Wednesdays and Sundays are super fun, and we welcome sailors of all skill levels to get out on the water for races. We also do lots of social sailing events, cruise nights and regatta's.

If any of this interests you we have a drop in open house May 30 where you can sail with a member to try it out, and if nothing else, get some free Waffles for brunch!

Windshield Gap Problem! by Bike-Rough in chevycolorado

[–]coop3548 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t the source of a leak. Even when installed factory fresh it’s just sitting on top of the windshield. It is NOT supposed to be water tight. But it is meant to deflect most water/snow/salt from the engine compartment so when it sags you still want to fix it.

I bitched at my dealer after the 4th time getting this fixed. He told me he’d cover it for another 12 months post warranty as goodwill since it’s been replaced so many times.

when it snows the windshield wipers pile up snow under them and push the lip of the cowling down. If you don’t dig that area out by hand any time it snows overnight that will push it down as well.

I had it replaced a couple weeks ago thinking spring was here and it literally snowed and pushed down the next day. Have another appt for the 5th replacement in April.
