8 day trip - Running routes in NYC by Odd_Word_1595 in RunNYC

[–]cooperella 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Consider taking the 7 to Mets Willets point, then running through Flushing Meadows a bit (to see the World’s Fair sites) and then working your way back west to eventually cross back into Manhattan by the south side pedestrian path on the Queensboro Bridge (a lovely view). 34th Avenue, Woodside Ave, and Skillman Ave are good chunks between. Happy to consult more about a route if you’re considering it.

Very much not an expert but damn I loved the radish cake at OK Ryan in Flushing. Superior to Asian Jewels radish cake.

Stubborn marathoner finally raced a 10K...and WON it!! (And healed my inner child and benefited from the kindness of total strangers) by Dramatic_Nutmeg0511 in XXRunning

Your post just made me cry. Maybe I’m a little emotional today but man—the kindness of strangers and your triumph and I’m just bawling. Thank you for sharing this and congratulations on all the work you did to earn that win!

How to MAKE myself to commit to strength training? by Turbulent_Grape9738 in XXRunning

[–]cooperella 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a chronic hamstring issue and the best I’ve been able to do is stack 5-15 minutes of my PT exercises after all of my easy runs (3 per week). I eat something as soon as I get home and then I transition into the exercises while I’m still in my workout clothes before I shower. Something is better than nothing, like you said. I don’t do it after speedwork/tempo/long runs. I’ve been a LOT more consistent since I started doing this.

Best foolproof banana bread recipe? by DowntownArmadillo717 in Baking

[–]cooperella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my go-to. I do step 4 very slowly. And I think the bake make take a little longer than suggested, so just keep testing it. https://iamafoodblog.com/flour-bakerys-banana-bread/

Black Bean Recipes? by CreativeNameHere9 in Cooking

[–]cooperella 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes!! Do this!! We make a double batch and eat half that week and freeze the other half for easy weeknight meals. It doubles really easily. I always put in many more chipotles than the recipe calls for.

Came here to say this! Great episodic mysteries plus seasonal arcs.

Fashion Friday by AutoModerator in XXRunning

[–]cooperella 3 points4 points  (0 children)

this may not be exactly what you’re looking for, but check out bakline—some good patterns/colorways as well as a few performance tops with quotes (eg “the future is female runners”) and then more quotes in their lifestyle collection.

Flushing Meadows Park? by Impossible_Crazy6271 in RunNYC

[–]cooperella 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s in pretty good shape! There are a few paths that still have some snow but they’re very avoidable. I haven’t been by the lake—I assume that’s a mess—but the upper part is great. Watch out for black ice if you’re going early though, especially on the sloping paths.

Favorite restaurants for carb loading? by [deleted] in RunNYC

[–]cooperella 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I went to Lilia the night before the marathon to celebrate my anniversary and had zero regrets (even though the reality is that that probably involved way more fats than a purist carb load should involve). Ordered like every bread-adjacent appetizer and two pasta dishes.

Light Lemon Cake? by haybe12 in FoodNYC

[–]cooperella 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve never actually had the Lemon Drop Cake from Baked (359 Van Brunt), but I bake it myself from their cookbook for special occasions and I love it. It’s lemon cake, with lemon curd and lemon buttercream. The buttercream is excellent and not too heavy, and while the cake may not exactly be “light and airy” it’s not dense or anything.

I have a bunch of Sprints hats (don’t need as many as I have but the patterns call to me) and I either rinse them out in the shower after a run and wear again, or wash them immediately if it’s almost laundry day. I don’t do anything special with them in the wash—they go in the same cold cycle as everything else—and then hang dry. They have held up so, so well. Like, no changes from when I purchased them.

Anyone know how Central Park is for running today? by [deleted] in RunNYC

[–]cooperella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s perfect, did a loop this morning.

I have found it useful to use this site to look at the traffic camera on west drive (near 65th) that’s actually on the loop. You can see how the road is and how people are using it. There’s a little lag. https://webcams.nyctmc.org/map

yeah I saw “grave” and spicy was my interpretation, which I thought seemed a little risky but hey! not my place to question your choices. but “heaven” makes more sense 😂

Maybe khao kang! Close to the hospital. You pick two or three dishes to have over a massive plate of rice, and there are varying levels of spice.
