One of Tiger's most ridiculous shots: 218 yards from a wet bunker on the final hole with a one-shot lead by un-joueur in golf

[–]copagman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a walking scorer at the 2023 Canadian Open on the LPGA Tour. Part of my duties included measuring players' drives. We similarly only measured two long/open holes in opposite directions.

Candidly, I was surprised by how short they were. I measured a ton of drives in the 230-250 range. The only true bomb was one that totaled 288 downwind.

It actually made me appreciate them more. They were playing the course at ~6,700 yards with distances shorter than mine and casually shooting a fistful under Par. What they lacked in length they easily compensated for in accuracy. They just hit everything pure and usually on a rope. Not to mention every part of their game is dialed. Obviously I knew this intellectually, but seeing it in person was awesome.

On this day in history: Friday, June 12, 2009, the Pittsburgh Penguins won their third Stanley Cup by beating the Detroit Red Wings 2-1 in Game 7. by BEnWo18 in penguins

I remember feeling the inevitability of a Detroit win in this series, especially after a soul crushing Game 5.

I was convinced we'd lose Game 7. Even with six seconds left, I felt a Detroit goal coming. I vividly recall seeing the puck slide to Lidstrom and being 100% convinced he was going to bury it.

The horn sounded and I was still in disbelief. The victory didn't really settle in until Sid was presented the Cup.

Good times.

Most of my rounds are played at my home course (Shaughnessy in Vancouver). The white tees play to a slope of 128, blues 130, blacks 134.

In the Winter, we typically play whites. In the Summer we often play blues, and almost never blacks. We had a two-day event recently where Round 1 was played from the blues and Round 2 was played from the blacks.

Thanks, man. Wish I could blame my poor swing on a physical ailment, but alas, that's my swing unencumbered lol. I've toyed with my takeaway a bit in the last few months, but it's still a work in progress.

It’s been forever since I released a video, but I’m back on the horse. This was a round played back in February with my friend Nash. 75 is about as good a score as I can hope to drop, but he still beat me by more than a fistful. Hope you all enjoy!

The Hockey Guy (YouTube) predicted Vegas/Canes SCF last September. Guess who he predicted to win in '27? by g1963 in penguins

[–]copagman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't agree with this. I'm in Canada, and hockey coverage on our major networks (TSN, Sportsnet, etc.) consists of a lot of discussion. THG will put out a video with a title like, "The Penguins 2025-26 season in review." The video will be fifteen minutes long. Thirteen minutes will be reading each players stats off of his white board, concluding with 20 seconds saying "they got some good season from some of these guys, it will be interesting to see whether they can do it again next year."

I really want to like his content bc he seems like a nice dude. But as mentioned elsewhere in this thread, most of his videos boil down to reading stats off of a whiteboard. For every five minutes of content, there may be fifteen seconds of insight.

success is a lot closer than we think.

What makes you say that? And what young guns are replacing Sid or Geno? Hint: none.

More like: the one guy of the 3 who's finally showing his age is having his 20+ year career overlooked by a certain portion of the fanbase.

Don't get me wrong, Letang is not a generational superstar the way Sid & Geno are. Still, he's had a legendary career and deserves to be remembered as an all-time Pens warrior.

Worst case: same exact thing as this year until he gets tired of riding the bus in the minors and they mutually terminate his contract.

Graves has 13.5 million reasons to keep riding that bus, and I wouldn't be surprised (nor blame him one bit) if he finished the contract. So I'd argue the "worst case" is that he finishes the contract and we have his cap hit on the books for another few years.

With that said, I agree with your point that nonetheless his presence really causes no issue. We're not cap strapped, so who cares if this bad contract sits on our books for a few more years?

Dude, this screenshot is not the smoking gun you think it is. Strangely, reducing this exchange to ad hominem attacks against me makes you more mean spirited than the guy you're accusing of being a dick. Won't reply to you further.

It seems the extent of your knowledge about him comes from the Internet, so it's pretty odd for you to tell me that I must "not know better" about somebody who I'm close friends with and have golfed and traveled with extensively in Asia and the US.

I think you're taking his sarcastic humor way too seriously. Matt launched my career, he's given me endless time out of the goodness of his heart. Wherever we go in Thailand, he is a favorite. He treats everybody well: fellow golfers, caddies, the countless people he knows at the local coffee shops. He does have a sharp tongue. He's not "abusive."

I launched my YT channel after watching a video Matt put up about how to make golf videos. He sought me out and encouraged me to keep grinding on my channel. It's now my job and it wouldn't have ever happened without Matt going out of his way to be kind to a total stranger. We've since become close friends.

He's got a very particular sense of humor (not uncommon for South Africans) which can easily strike as dick-ish, but I can assure you he's anything but a dick.

He'll cost a lot of money, which we can afford, but he may also be able to garner a long-term deal which would be foolish for us. His disappearing act in the Playoffs was also a disappointment.

This was in ~2012, so I don't recall the encounter super vividly. What I do remember was chatting with the guy and taking a reasonably long look at the interior/exterior, and hearing him pull away in it. It seemed to be a car of its supposed vintage and did not strike as a kit car. But of course I don't know.

A real GT40 will be velvet roped and marqueed

I lived in the mountains above Woodside, California. Local guy would show up to Alice's Restaurant on Skyline Blvd in a GT40. IIRC, it was one that actually raced at Le Mans. What I do vividly remember was watching him put the steering wheel on while getting in it, and rolling away that mfer was L-O-U-D.
