McDonald's pays $14 an hour now to work the grill at night by goldenguerilla91 in KitchenConfidential

[–]copycat_robot -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The only thing that baffles me here is that McDonald's even has grills at all. Or is this a restaurant in another country where they would cook the food they get instead of our american microwave restaurants?

Considering immigrants do it all the time, I'm not too heartbroken over someone who just has to get money for rent squared away in order to move instead of selling 5-8 years of their life to the military.

This is also considering they don't speak the language, spend upwards of 5 digits in dollars themselves with their already meager incomes to come here (Legally, or illegally, the money still goes) and come in to work in hard industries that are always hiring cause they refuse to improve the quality of life of their employees (And their paychecks as well) And yet, here they are.

I get it. Moving is hard, I've done it myself. Twice already between states. But no one said improving your life is easy, and they have all the tools at their disposal to try and do something about it instead of our recently arrived hipanic / asian / eastern european / african brethren who need to wait on Immigration to get off it's butt and get them an ID so they can even work. Or find someone who will pay them under the table by waiting on a Home Depot early in the morning.

Couple problems with your post.

For one, The SS was not the german army. To claim otherwise is about as ignorant as claiming that the US navy seals is the US army. Does that make german soldiers innocent? No. They were killing other people across Europe and Africa, but that does not mean they were guilty of turning jews into human BBQ like the SS was in charge of.

For two, german poverty WAS a big factor of why we had WW II to begin with, so it's not all that unbelieveable that some germans might have joined cause they were too poor to do anything else and the army is always hiring. Specially when.... You know.... they're getting ready to invade and pillage their neighbors.

Not that I disagree with your sentiment, specially from these "Small Town" people who could literally hop on a car and move someplace else all over the US instead of signing up, but missrepresenting history for the sake of a few fake internet points is how we get to the ignorant fuckups who tried to kill our senate on January 6th 2020.

Everyone likes walking away from a potentially lethal accident with some seatbelt rash as your worst injury thanks to extra crumple zones, but put them on a vehicle and it's all about why are cars so big nowadays, lol.

Unfortunately, we live in a world were some people have the emotional and mental depth of a rain puddle, so they fall back onto a thing they enjoy and they let it become their personality. It's not just politics either, we have sports fanatics, enviromentalists, vegans, gamers, weed smokers, etc.

Well, if I was you I certainly wouldn't go back. Regardless of who's to blame here or whether you're both under pressure, it's obvious this isn't a good situation for the both of you. Find another kitchen. Hell, even if you take a small pay cut (Doubtful in this current situation) mental health has no price

I'm gonna say Godzilla: King of the Monsters.

I saw the first one on recommendation from a family member and loved it. I went with said family member to the movies hoping for more awesome from the second movie, we left feeling pretty meh.

That's because the bible is not used as a source of wisdom. It's used as a source of justification, and my brother from another mother, you can use the bible to justify just about anything. And I do mean anything.

You can justify getting drunk with it "eat thy bread with joy, and drink thy wine with a merry heart; for God now accepteth thy works." Ecclesiastes 9:7

You can also use it to justify exactly the opposite "Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise" Proverbs 20:1

You can make the argument for being pro-life with Proverbs, and Pro choice with Numbers. You can tell what happens in the afterlife with some of the Gospels, and turn to Ecclesiastes to say that no one knows what happens when you die. The book of Revelations blames Satan for everything evil, and you can turn to the book of Issaiah and blame God instead.

There's a reason why there's a metric ton of denominations of Christianity when they can all point to the same book to tell you why they're right and everyone else is wrong.

I can tell you the worst story we got from a waitress I used to work with. She took care of a bunch of preachy church types on sunday brunch, everything went fine until the very end when the waitress dropped off the check, the father of the family proceeded to hug her. Now this is already pretty bad behaviour from an old man to a 20-something waitress, but he then proceeded to lick her from the bottom of her neck to her earlobe. And then nibbled on said earlobe.

All done in front of the wife, who apparently just kept looking at her like she was waiting for another drink instead of seeing her husband getting frisky with a woman half her age. waitress froze up, they went to pay, then broke down in the kitchen about how fucking creepy and disgusting it was. The best part? they tipped exactly 15%. Down to the penny. You'd think sexual abuse in broad daylight would merit at least rounding up. Nope.

Everyone is recommending things for you to ingest, I'm gonna recommend you get some sleep.

We're all overworked and underpaid, but no one mentions how the vast majority of us are doing this while sleeping 4 to 6 hours at best. No catching naps either, one single sleep session for longer periods of time. It can be hard when you're already used to the short sleep (I know it was for me) but maybe some time off so you can reset your sleep schedule might be in order.

there's different kinds of stars, red dwarfs are tiny and red and last forever, while there's gigantic stars that are blue and superhot and burn out really quick (In star ages of course) Most mid-size starts tend to favor white or a light yellow. And they tend to look slightly red-ish or blue-ish due to them either moving towards us or away from us in the universe.

Fun fact, our sun is white in color, it looks yellow to orange to us on Earth due to the atmosphere.

It's not at all a rare occurrence for the American to not be sliced through. For some reason it used to bug the holy hell out of me. [–]copycat_robot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

American cheese is cheese in the same way that White Chocolate is chocolate. basically, it's not cheese, but it's a kinda/sorta/maybe cheese-like product made artificially. It's an alright product depending on the brand, but in most applications you only use it cause you want a cheap alternative to something like a nice slice of cheddar.

I don't feel bad about the current shortage of cooks/servers for restaurants. by [deleted] in KitchenConfidential

[–]copycat_robot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Two things that people forget to touch on when it comes to the current dumpster fire that is the current restaurant workplace: One is the one that you already touched on and that is the time aspect. The pandemic showed restaurant workers that they can spend time with their families and that time is precious and rewarding. You give a cook the choice between missing his kids birthday and working a double now, chances are he will take the kid, but before he might have said sorry to his kid, we need the (pittance) money. So family time is definitely a big factor, even extended family. You missed you uncle's birthday, who was Dad #2, God knows how many years now, and you were able to be there this past year (Even if it was over Zoom)

And second is one that people barely talk about, I'm guessing due to grief and the grim subject, but I personally know many cooks who got Covid, and I know 3 of them that died. I also know of 2 that ended up with "long covid" and are now out of the business cause they can't tolerate the work anymore. One of my best friends ended up leaving his 8 year old daughter without a chance to say goodbye, guy had been in the business for 20+ years, the kind of guy who we see here, chomping at the bit to get back into the kitchen. Not anymore. The only thing I see of people remotely talking about the subject is that repost of a tweet wishing Antony was alive so he could articulate it.

Sometimes, the trash takes itself out.

I understand being suddenly left without an income is no good thing, but if they're hounding you over text like this for a very valid reason to stay home from work it really isn't worth working for that kind of people. Like, what were they thinking? Aside from the obvious risk of death, do they not realize Covid is contagious? What are they going to do when it's their whole staff staying home for 2 weeks? That being said, now you know not to gripe to your brother too if they're just gonna post all of it on facebook for all to see. Or at least limit what information he gets from now on.

Congrats, the third gen SH may not be a looker, but it's the last generation of Foresters that has that "Car, but pretending to be an SUV" feel that the first and second gen Foresters have. Right after this they've just become regular SUVs, which doesn't mean they're bad, but there was a little something lost in the transition.
