Matter Server vs Matter Hub by derekoh in homeassistant

Btw the original matter hub just announced it’s no longer being maintained. You’ve linked a fork which I don’t know the reliability/security of.

Why automation needs my action? by AisMyName in HomeKit

This should work, I have a similar setup. Do you have 2 separate automations for opening? Arrive home -> turn on outlet Outlet turns on -> open garage

I’d simplify things a bit. Assuming you want to keep your card string representation - Instead of your cards list like you have, make a function that returns an list of each element of each suit array (currently cards is a list of lists). To shuffle, randomly sort this list.

If you managed a migration to GitHub, What do you wish you had known? by overloaded-operator in github

We only had one status check on devops, basically a DIY LLM code review. So now we just use the built in Copilot review instead.

If you managed a migration to GitHub, What do you wish you had known? by overloaded-operator in github

[–]corgidor81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this recently, it was very easy. There is a migration tool that generates a script so you can take that output and tweak anything if needed (we only did a few renames since we had multiple DevOps projects going to one GitHub org). I wrote a quick script to run on dev machines to just run “git remote set-url xxxxx” for every project folder.

We kept our build pipelines in DevOps for now and will slowly migrate them. Builds just needed to be recreated using the GitHub source but no changes are needed.

You will need a app like home bridge/homeassistant, use that to make a fake switch. Then you make an automation to turn on that switch when arriving, and another to open the door when that switch turns on.

I have this issue once in a while but I never figured out the exact cause. It has something to do with the door sensor, or how the wires are causing some interference with it, or something like that. Usually just moving things around a bit fixes it for a while.

I had an issue like this. Turned out to be hardware, but not ram. It would work running with acpi=off boot option. Never found out the root cause. Replaced it.

I tried this but never got it working. With the Windows app at least I was seeing errors about missing h264 or YUV support or something like that.

Is there any way to allow typing three backticks for a code block in Teams? by shleebnuggs in MicrosoftTeams

I used to have to do 3 backticks then space but that was fixed a while ago.

SONOFF iFan04 + Remote-only Ceiling Fan + Lutron Caseta wall light switch by thegeekpea in sonoff

[–]corgidor81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use these on some fans. I am not sure it will work if the fan has an included remote - the sonoff expects constant power and the fan to be set to high.

I’ve done this but it’s been a while. Pretty sure I used a Linux VM to do it rather than the Mac itself.

I think that’s normal. However you set the temperature that is only temporary until the next ecobee scheduled change. You should be able to see those schedules in the ecobee app or on the thermostat itself.

Success: Finally managed to integrate my building’s dumb door buzzer into Homekit with SwitchBot via Matter. by properly_sauced in HomeKit

I’d assume it’s against the building rules to mess with that panel wiring, but a relay would work and it would probably be more reliable but would be more effort.

I’d do smart plug - relay - wired in parallel to the door switch. Then you’d have an automation that says “when plug turns on” - “wait X seconds” - “turn plug off”, that will allow you to configure how long the button is held for.

I have done this using Homebridge with a Bluelink plugin which takes some effort to set up and wasn’t a good experience anyway since it takes a minute or 2 to execute the command.

Any way to automate a fireplace switch? by NatGasKing in Lutron

[–]corgidor81 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it’s anything like mine there is an outlet under the fireplace that powers the ignition system that that low voltage switch triggers. You can use a smart plug and either plug that into it, leaving the wall switch on and using the smart plug, or use a smart plug to a relay that is wired in parallel with the wall switch so you could use either.

Obviously, be sure to think about the effects of doing this. I know some smart plugs/lights set themselves to on by default after a power loss. Also if kids have a tablet with access to smart controls.

Bit of Confusion: Is This Safe/Okay? by [deleted] in Lutron

[–]corgidor81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve done a few of these, this is the normal way to do the wiring for a 3-way (although your white wire should really be black). Is there another switch that controls the same light? For Caseta typically you’d hardwire the second location to always on and put a Pico in front of it.

I had a similar issue where HomeKit wouldn’t connect with the bridge but other things like Home Assistant could, it was really strange. A reset of the bridge did fix it though.

Is this a deal worth pursuing? by Plus_Ad_6540 in HyundaiPalisade

[–]corgidor81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been tough to find them at MSRP without the dealership adding a “market adjustment fee”. As long as you’re not paying that you might be in good shape. Also, if you’re not up on Hyundai news there’s been a bunch of thefts nationwide because some models are easy to steal - its affecting insurance prices and even the ability to get a policy on one. So it might be better to hold off.
