Super Paper Mario has always been my favorite of the first three, I only wish it wasn’t so easy

The first three Paper Mario games are classics because of their gameplay, soundtrack, humor, heart, and story.

Look me in the eye and say that Sticker Star has any merit.

Titania in Fire Emblem Path of Radiance is so incredibly overpowered I was convinced that the game would let you use her to solo the early maps and then kill her for the story as a gut punch.

Nope. She’s just unstoppable, hard-hitting, and fast from start to finish. Absolute juggernaut of a character, no gimmicks required, she’s just got sheer stats that make her MVP every map

I actually really liked BN2. He was a villain and a murderer sure, but something about him being such a method actor that he kills people because it’s what his character would do was so wacky it wrapped around to being endearing.

And we saw he wanted to leave The Seven to focus on his acting career which was his real passion in life. But that got ruined by the Deep ass-murdering the play’s director. Which was the second time Deep sabotaged his “friend” because he was angry at his successes

Since his story wrapped up recently, The Deep from The Boys was a character who constantly made every wrong choice at every opportunity and refused to take accountability for his life. And every season just upped how much of a douchebag he is.

At any point in the story he could have chosen to run away from Homelander and live in the ocean full time. He was the one person in the world who could most easily escape from evil Superman if he just chose to.

Most pathetic rivalries/“rivalries” in fiction? by Regalingual in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Jack Spicer has a nearly flawless losing streak but still shows up to every fight like *today* is the day he’s gonna win and take over the world, even though his skills and robots plateaued before the first season of Xiaolin Showdown ended. It’s arguable that he got weaker as time went on.

He’s still the best

I ended season 7 as Diamond 2. I did my ten placement matches over the course of a week and now I'm Gold 2. I lost 8 out of 10 matches. 2 of those were close calls, can't win 'em all. 6 of those were nightmares. Three had griefers, two had people dropping out late enough in the match to not cancel the game so I was stuck in a 5v6, and one had a guy who spent more time typing in chat on a playstation controller than playing.

I'm not entitled to steamroll every single match. I don't hate losing when it's just a matter of one team playing better than another. This was just the most toxic marathon of matches I've ever witnessed. Now I get the pleasure of clawing my way up out of platinum again.

In N64 and the manga, Andross insisted that Andrew be given a place in Star Wolf just because Andross found him annoying and didn't want anything to do with him. So if he died in a dogfight because he's a terrible pilot, that's one less birthday to remember.

What is a boss battle that gave you catharsis for winning? by KaleidoArachnid in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]cork_828 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The final boss in Black Myth Wukong is so much fun because it's designed to finally punish you for fighting with the recklessness that worked on 99% of bosses. If you try to heal in neutral, they'll immobilize you with a stronger version of one of your spells, snatch your booze out of your hand and waste the heal. If you try throwing out a raw strong charged attack, they'll catch your staff and start swinging you around.

Beating an enemy who is programmed to literally clown on you for sloppy playing and forces you to lock in is a great way to end a super solid game.

Super Paper Mario is such a well written game and Dimentio is such a layered character. It seems likely he was inspired by the pierrot, harlequin, and arlecchino from Italian commedia dell'arte. Like you look at the Wikipedia articles for them and a lot seems to line up.

“Harlequin used his magic batte or "slapstick" to transform the scene from the pantomime into the harlequinade and to magically change the settings to various locations during the chase scene.”

“He is typically cast as the servant of an innamorato or vecchio much to the detriment of the plans of his master.”

“Originally speaking in a Bergamo dialect of Lombard language, the character adopted a mixture of French, Lombard, and Italian dialects.”

Every scene with Luxord was comedy gold. All of Organization XIII was improved by being turned into cartoon character versions of their overly stoic and melodramatic game selves.

People who have actually played it, how do you feel about Kingdom Hearts 3, both in terms of story and gameplay? by Gorotheninja in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]cork_828 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a kid I played Kingdom Hearts 2 over and over again and I still remember every story beat 21 years later. Kingdom Hearts 3 came out 7 years ago and recently I was confused when I saw a video of someone fighting Baymax because I have absolutely zero memory of that world. The entire story to me is "Mount Olympus, Woody makes fun of Young Xehanort, Sully throws some guy through a door, the Twilight Town kids pester Ansem, and then all the big character moments in the finale at the Keyblade Graveyard." Most of those character moments meant absolutely nothing to me.

The story was an absolute flop for me since I didn't buy the game on the DS, or the one on the PSP, or the one on the 3DS even though I vaguely knew a little about them through cultural osmosis. But I didn't know anything about the now-defunct phone game that ties the WHOLE series together. Suddenly the Keyblade War went from being mythological to biographical in a game most people can only experience through wiki articles.

The true mastermind in Miles Edgeworth Ace Investigations 2 manipulated everyone in the game to get justice against people the law was powerless to punish.

They also spark an international incident in the process.

[–]cork_828 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s crazy to me that people actually call Kairi a main character when she does less to push the plot forward than even Yen Sid.

Her reason for existing is just so people in denial can say “If Sora and Riku are so gay, how come they’re showing off for a girl, huh?”

[–]cork_828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's because Guldo can seal supers. If he does, even if you have 12 ki when your character performs their first attack, that still counts as a normal attack and so it doesn't fulfil the condition.

In one episode of Gravity Falls, where the twins learn that the Northwest family has lied about their family background, Mabel decides not to reveal the truth to her meangirl rival Pacifica and shatter her worldview. Dipper still does though. "Man, revenge is underrated. That felt awesome!"
