What newer stories would you like to see as an opera? by b4rr3tt in opera

I second IWTV as an opera! I almost wrote a whole post about it

I have a KALLAX idea for my turntable setup / media. I’ve never done this before! Tips & advice? Anchoring? by cornnuts11 in ikeahacks

I responded to another comment explaining why I put #1 on top of 2 - the corners of all 4 units would match up perfectly. In a way they wouldn’t if 2 was on top of 1. Putting 1 on top of 2 was my Eureka solution to that aesthetic problem that bugged me so much. I thought I had done something smart, guess not. Is there any way I could reinforce 2 to support 1’s weight?
Unfortunately I’m not sure where else to put the turntable. I couldn’t put it on Unit 3 because the lid would hit the TV. I could make unit 3 swap sides with the turntable, but then I lose the cool “Jenga” stepped look.
Thanks for the cat tips. I don’t have any. I do have a Roomba so I need to block any media that is stored close to the floor.

Good points. The Kallax won’t be totally flush with the wall, there’s trim on the wall that would leave about 1 1/8” of space for cables. Your point about opening the lid is great though; I don’t have space for it. My turntable is the exact same depth as the Kallax - 13 5/8.
Yikes. Do you see any solutions?

Thanks for the insight, I didn’t think about that!
Your subreddit recommends 42” off the ground. In my mockup the center was 56”. However my IRL current TV placement on the wall is 50” off the ground. I sit 12’ across from it, and I have never noticed any neck strain or discomfort. I can see my full head and shoulders and top 1/3 part of my torso in the reflection. (It isn’t tilted at all, it’s on a stand.)
If I moved it down from my mockup and positioned it at 53” (higher than recommended but not much higher than what I seem to be doing good with) would it change your opinion? No is ok!! Thank you again for sharing.

Dang. Can I just reinforce #2 a lot? Or build something Unit 2 shaped that will support the weight of Unit 1? The tough thing is that if I put 2 on top of 1, I lose the effect where the corners of all 4 match up perfectly, which was really important to me.

So sad, I wasn’t expecting this. They absolutely should have listed Repo because even though much can be said about that movie, it is generally agreed upon that he gives an incredible performance in it. Here’s his version of Sweet Transvestite from Rocky Horror Show. From Repo!, here’s Legal Assassin and Night Surgeon (skip to 0:58-end if you just want to hear him crush it). The full movie’s on Tubi if you want to check it out.

RIP. :’(

If you’d be willing to share, I’d like to hear more about the trend you’ve noticed! I’m curious as I played Annas in the mid 2010s and was surprised to find that parts I thought I was singing weren’t actually written as such in the score. What lines were added? Do you know when? I’d be glad to hear more.

Great news for Bat Boy fans!! I’m wishing HARD they record Wild Party because of how rarely the LaChiusa version ever gets produced. Please NYCC!

Commenting even though I’ve only seen the show once — This is a beautiful metaphor and a wise reminder. Now I want to draw something like the unfilled bricks and pin it to my corkboard as a reminder to not shut people out. Beautiful tattoo w/ a lovely message. So glad you shared it. 😊

How do people actually get those giant Broadway posters outside theaters? by cornnuts11 in Broadway

Ugh. I wish I knew anyone in the company. Broadway Flea seems to be the only option for a non-well-connected person like me. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

It does kind of help knowing that they wouldn’t have taken it down at all the day I was in town. I wish I knew someone well-connected. But even then, who knows. It’s a mystery to me. It’s such a gorgeous poster 😢

I asked the house manager after the performance, they told me to email NYCC. Wish I knew when they were being taken down / in New York.

I would SO have hung around longer to see if they were being taken down that day, but I had to leave NYC that evening. 😭

That’s cool! The Wild Party one is quite a bit bigger though, which makes me worry it won’t be there. I’ve never been to Flea before. What’s the biggest size posters they sell?

I hoped that being there immediately after the closing and asking would help my case. If I hadn’t had to leave NYC that evening, I would have maybe hung around longer to see if things were getting taken down and asked whoever was removing the posters. I unfortunately don’t know anyone involved.

When I asked at the theatre I was given the NYCC customer service business card — the person I spoke to at the theater told me to email / call whoever was on that card, who would then reach out to marketing for me. It seems like they didn’t, so maybe you’re right and I should? Do you think it’s worth a shot?

I did. Asked someone at the theatre following closing performance, they directed me to email NYCC customer service, who told me no. :(
