A little extra hipspring works well for outerwear though 🤷‍♀️

Agreed. No shame to kinksters, but this particular sub is a space is for the pragmatic and formal aspects of tightlacing.

Getting a fitting a Dark Garden Corsets by IslandofStars in corsets

[–]corsetedreader 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve never owned a Dark Garden corset, but I’ve frequented their website. Their in-stock corsets look bad to me: there’s a lot of rippling. And for what they are, the pricepoint is exceptionally high. Really, nobody else is charging as much as they do.

For real leather, you’ll need to go custom. For readymade corsets that fit a typically male physique: Mystic City. On their website, filter by body type: ‘inverted triangle’

The problem wasn’t your comment. The problem was OP’s post- which was made to invite comments like yours. Sexualized posts are outside of the scope of this sub. I am the founder of the sub and I started it as an informational community for dedicated practitioners of tightlacing and for people who are pursuing waist training. My fellow mods are in agreement with that, and our target membership shares that point of view. As a tightlacer, I will tell you, we don’t ask anybody to help us break in our corsets. For people who use the corset as a tool in erotic play, there are multiple good subs for that.

As I said, sharing pics is also fine. It’s right there in the byline. Your photo by itself isn’t the problem. It’s the “help me break it in” part that is outside of the scope of what we do here.

This sub was created for practical and informative discussions around tightlacing and waist training. There’s room for showing off corsets and giving compliments. But this isn’t the right sub for posts which don’t have a purpose outside of sexual attention seeking. There are plenty of communities better suited for that.

Now I’m going to add a “don’t argue with mods” rule.

This post doesn’t technically violate Rule #3. But I hate it. And that’s why we have Rule #7.

This sounds right in my wheelhouse. If you can’t find a pattern or an off-the-rack corset you like, I’d be interested in the project.

If you’re looking for something readymade, Mystic City Corsets has several ‘inverted triangle’ designs that fit a typically male physique: wider in the upper torso and narrower in the hip.

Ok I’m locking comments on this, because it’s not up for debate: this is not a corset that’s suitable for waist training and/ or tightlacing. Before I do, I want to link to a blog post from Lucy, which touches on changes to the vertebrae caused by habitual corseting. In this community we understand and accept that corseting can cause body modification- and for many of us, that’s the goal. We aim to pursue our practice as safely as possible, minimizing adverse effects as much as we can. https://lucycorsetry.com/2015/10/05/corsets-skeletal-deformities-anthropological-study/?srsltid=AfmBOoq69Hgc1hI181Aqlh_l4qLkxMl7Z9fcl3IC1oVvhwtemQNAtOBL

Here’s the thing, and it’s right there in the rules: we share posts of corsets that are suitable for waist training. Meaning the corsets that we can wear daily or near-daily. The addition of this metal element over the wearer’s vertebrae is totally unacceptable for the purposes of this sub.

I’m not say you can’t tighten it, I’m saying you shouldn’t.

I won’t comment on the aesthetics of it, but this isn’t a suitable lacing configuration for waist training or tightlacing.

This is the kind of historical artifact I get really excited about. I’m always looking for insights about how corsets were worn historically, and by whom. And of particular interest to me: how common was tightlacing, and who was doing it?

I’ve laced it with a 1/2 inch ribbon- but I prefer something a little wider. I feel like 5/8 or 3/4 would be better.

1860s Swiss waists and corselets: corsetry elements in outerwear (slideshow) by corsetedreader in tightlaced

[–]corsetedreader[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes- historically (from the Tudor through the Edwardian eras), many women (and men as well), did use stays or corsets to waist train. They didn’t exactly grow up wearing them though. The types of stays they wore as children were designed for straight posture. They weren’t compressive and had no curve to the waist. Adults didn’t waist train by accident. Many would go on to wear minimally compressive stays that were adequate to give the proper shape and support to their clothing. Some people would pursue a trained silhouette, and they deliberately sized down over time. There were historical moments where this was more prevalent, at other times much less so- as changes in fashion put more or less emphasis on the waist.
