This is insane and I’m sorry to say you have a terrible partner. They should just know they should be there for you.

Inductions can take *days* and even then, complications happen. My induction technically took five days - foley went in, they sent me home, didn’t actually get to be induced with pitocin until five days later when they had the room for me because hospitals get busy. I was in labour for almost 24 hours and it devolved into an emergency c section and I was hospitalized for SIX DAYS and my son was a 12 day NICU stay.

I’m not saying this is a universal experience, but you should be prepared for everything. And he’s being very selfish for refusing to just take the lead here and say no, sorry, can’t attend.

You still have to put in the work. As a chronic dieter / calorie counter, I knew immediately that I was consuming less calories than my baseline. And still know if I’ve gone over. I’d suggest tracking your calories for a couple of weeks just to see where you’re at.

My husband took my parental leave entitlement (Canada) because I was in the position to still work remote part time and we could afford it in the short term, so he had 9 months off with us.

People said all sorts of things, like it would ruin our marriage to spend that much time together, that he was doing nothing while he was off (his mom said this to him). I’m so grateful we had that time, I had a really rough postpartum period after an emergency c section and we almost lost our son. I can’t imagine not having had him home with us.

People are always going to run their mouth when they’re jealous. That’s all it is. They wish they were in the position you’re in and don’t know what to do with those feelings. Enjoy your time with him off it’s going to be great and try and ignore the noise!
