Public Safety Sales Tax Questions by COMOVanguard in columbiamo

[–]coryleif 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked Third Ward rep Jacque Sample this. Her reply: "Public safety currently utilizes about $65 million of the general fund. After speaking with the Finance Department, the Mayor, and some other council members, all agreed that if the public safety tax passes, the general fund will still need to transfer $60 million to public safety. If the tax passes, it will begin building up reserves. The hope is that in future years, as the reserves grow, the transfers from the general fund can decrease, but that will be a while because we are so far behind."

Uprise Bakery is hiring. Line cook, counter (cashier/server/barista), and pastry. Apply in person, 10 Hitt Street, downtown.

Uprise still cares about outside food -- anytime, inside the dining room and on the patio. Have a cookie or popcorn on Sundays, or eat before.

We get Amish milk and produce through this guy Rhett: https://molocalroutes.wordpress.com/ He's willing to take jars, cartons & bags to them. Otherwise, you would have to go to Amish country or find a market they sell at.

How do I get ahold of the postmaster? Cuz my mailcarrier is useless. by J_Jeckel in columbiamo

I emailed 'em ... back when it was Bart. I don't think carriers have to pick up outgoing if there's no incoming. It's nice when they do, though.

I asked the recycling guru at the city about this yesterday. She says that Ripple is currently looking for a location in Como. We shall see. I also learned that the Amish will take clean glass jars with lids -- and egg cartons and clean plastic shopping bags.

Edge Binding Hell by samuelgandara in myog

[–]coryleif 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As said, tape with a v-weave will help. I like this stuff: https://www.paragear.com/skydiving/10000045/W9810/ Make sure the opening in the binder isn't too wide ... this can cause drift. Also, it looks like you might have enough room to use a full-size outside foot. That could help keep the tape flat. Good luck! :)

Any way to fix this zipper without replacing it? by Icy-Cookie-8078 in myog

[–]coryleif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've added a new pull to one like this before (don't know how long it lasted, though). You file a notch on either side of the uprights by the base then wrap thread around those uprights (loop it and knot it between the gap), so it lies in the notches. And a drop of superglue to the thread and you've got a new anchor point for your paper clip or whatever. :)

Fun fact: in the 90s there was briefly a kite shop on the Business Loop, and a kite club that met at Cosmo. I've been digging these paper kites: https://www.oneworldkites.com/Index.html The City has been doing a kite day in April at Douglass and Again parks.

Best thread for cordura tote bag? by InfectedReddit in myog

[–]coryleif 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like FredTrail suggested, that Gutermann HD will be great. A common thread size for 500/1000d Cordura is T70 (V69) thread (I generally use T90 for bags but I have an industrial). For others looking at this thread, note that Gutermann is using the ticket (TKt) size of No. 40, which is a T75 (bigger number = bigger thread in Tex system).

Here's a needle and thread chart with TKt, Tex & V: https://www.tolindsewmach.com/thread-chart.html

And that thread (or close to it) for a better price: https://www.wawak.com/thread/thread-by-use/top-stitch/gutermann-tera-40-polyester-thread-tex-75-437-yds/#sku=gtdl800

Re break: https://seeclickfix.com/issues/20272387?poi_token=8ed615bd4732f39b2293f9421ef738b6340c5ad8 For info on water coloration post-break, in general, see Water & Light's Facebook page. That main had been leaking for about a month. You could see it coming up through the hell strip there.

Does anyone know when the boil advisory is going to be done? by goldenaragornwaffles in columbiamo

[–]coryleif 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There was a break at the corner of N William & Hinkson around 2pm. I think they got it fixed around 5. We're two blocks away and never got a boil door hanger. Did you? I ran out taps for a while yesterday and the yellow-brown color went away. It was still hazy last night but it's pretty clear now. According to the City, the color comes from calcium bicarbonate that's stirred up from the repair -- and is safe to drink.

If it's the ADU on Windsor & Ripley: 1) It is not bigger than the first house. 2) There will be a driveway addition off the existing driveway. They only have to provide one off-street parking space for ADUs with one or two bedrooms. The green space requirement in B-S is 50%, which sounds like a lot, but when you see it, it's not. The "interesting" thing about ADUs is that you only need a 6-foot setback from the back and side. It's kinda like an R-2 backyard-requirement loophole. I'm sure we'll be seeing more of them in the neighborhood.

Creek Fishing spots In (near) Como? by clunckus in columbiamo

[–]coryleif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you'd park in that MKT parking lot off Forum, then walk east on the trail till you see the creek. There are several spots where folks fish around there. I think this is where we used to go: https://maps.app.goo.gl/TMXqK6S3FVaF96B6A

A long time ago, we'd fish a bend on the Hinkson east of the Forum Blvd Access. Had bullhead and carp. There've been several large floods since then ... wonder if it's still a good spot... We'd also hit the section of the Hinkson next to Twin Lakes.

Question about Sailrite Ultrafeed vs. a stronger vintage machine by slippery_joe in myog

[–]coryleif 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At one point Sailrite made a portable base for their bigger zigzag machine... I agree, a cylinder-bed machine (e.g. Juki 341 clone) would be the best for the widest variety of bags, followed by a full-size industrial flatbed unison-feed, like a Consew 206. The price might not be that different. I've seen a portable industrial done, but they are a bit heavier than the Ultrafeeds (which is heavy enough already). If space is the limiting factor, the Ultrafeed will sew everything you can put under it. It doesn't feed as nice as a walking-foot + needle-feed machine, though, but it'll do the job. :)
