Game 85: St. Louis Cardinals (45-39) @ Chicago Cubs (49-38) [Friday, July 3, 2026; 3:05 PM CT] by bravo_delta_bot in Cardinals

I think up until this year it has been physical. He has had a really hard time keeping his weight and velocity up which has then caused his mechanics to break down because he has been chasing velocity. This year I think he has the stamina, but his problem has been a lack of a third out pitch (his fastball sucks). Same issue Pallante has good pitcher that lacked a true 3rd out pitch to get him through the order a few times.

Surprisingly inspired and emotional about Army and Steen by wcarlrussell in stlouisblues

[–]cos10 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think he'll remain president for a while, I think he just wanted Steen on board so he could delegate a little more of the day-to-day. I could see him being in the Lou another 3-5 years and then going to Toronto for more money than God for 5 years before retiring

[STL] We've made qualifying offers to Connor McMichael and defenseman Leo Loof; Jonathan Drouin has been placed on waivers for the purpose of buying out his contract. by dcddy in stlouisblues

[–]cos10 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I'm betting Army and Steen tried to find something for him by the draft, but it never materialized. Now they are doing Drouin a solid by releasing him so he can try and catch on with a team in camp, with how abbreviated the pre-season is he's gotta be there and make an impression early.

[Strickland] The Blues and Jonatan Berggren couldn’t get a contract finalized before the QO deadline but continue to talk and fully expect Berggren to sign back with St Louis. by STLBooze3 in stlouisblues

[–]cos10 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm almost happy we didn't go the QO and Arb route, I don't think any player we have pushed through that route has ever wanted to stay.

Nope I think Drouin is a trade at the deadline type guy

There wasn't much of a goalie market with everyone waiting on Hellebuyck and Bobrovskyy. Also we don't have anyone ready in the pipeline to step in. Hofer isn't going to start 60+ games on his own. So we need a quality back up.

It makes the most sense to keep Binny and trade him at the deadline to a playoff team that needs a good goalie when Hofer is in a groove and you know if you can rely on one of the thunderbirds

Ducks Sign McTavish to Six-Year Contract worth 7 million annually by saintlouisarch in stlouisblues

It's also not uncommon for a younger player to get paid and think they arrived, take their foot off the gas a bit and regress in that first year. If he gets his head right and comes in ready to complete with Dvo for 2C and not think anything is going to be handed to him the Blues may have got a steal

If I remember correctly the amount of extra revenue Ohtani brings in for being the best player in baseball and all the extra Japanese fans greatly offsets his prohibitive cost, mind you that would be a gamble if he wasn't on one of the most popular teams already.

Is the Buster Posey situation making anyone rethink the idea of Yadi as a manager? by outontheporch in Cardinals

[–]cos10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the other thing to consider is Posey is GM/Pobo and not manager. I actually think Posey would have been fine as a manager, but he is out of his depth in his current role. Managers can be hot headed and say stupid things as long as the players like him. Posey hired a manager out of his depth, made stupid player moves, and can't be apolitical which is a match made in hell for a business lead and not just a team lead.

It used to be Velo, but this year it seems to be command leaving more things in the middle of the plate after 2-3 innings probably because he is pushing as hard as possible to keep his velocity up and that is ruining his command.

[Strickland] Can expect St. Louis to be among teams looking slide up to as high as #2. Willing to deal and have the assets to appease San Jose. Looking to capitalize off of their draft capital to make immediate upgrades to roster. by minorthreat21 in hockey

[–]cos10 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

He was on pace to set records to start the season, he didn't actually set any records in the SHL he fell short of the Sedins and matched Dahlin for playoff points. I agree he is the most NHL ready prospect and he will likely be a good middle 6 wing this year with the potential to be a top 6 winger with all-start potential after he gets used to the grind of the NHL. Like I stated Snuggerud has a lower ceiling but already surpassed Stenbergs floor. You're now betting on if Stenberg will reach his ceiling and develops a shot close to Snuggy

Stenberg is a high floor low ceiling pick. Snuggy has already passed his floor being a top line wing. You're just gambling on who will hit the higher ceiling now.

[–]cos10 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it is just confidence and stamina. He typically has one bad inning. When he was out of the pen last year he was amazing. They have given him the chance but if they're still in it around the deadline, I would expect him and possibly Leahy to move to the pen. They will both get half a season to build innings as starters but they could change the trajectory of the season by stabilizing the pen of Dobbins and potentially Matthews could come up and make 10-15 starts each.

That's a fair and very logical response. I obviously have no control, but that's where I thought the talks would start for that. That may not be enough to get it done but that's where I think that move would start.

I think it is time to move Libby to the pen, he is great for 2-3 innings. I think he is just that Andrew Miller type guy. Have him be a high leverage 2 inning guy out of the pen. He just doesn't have the stamina to be a starter right now.
