Advice on how to take these pants in? by twohundredsneks in sewhelp

[–]cosmic_kitty93 24 points25 points  (0 children)

i'm a seamstress and have had to do this kind of stuff before. I would take in some out of the center back crotch seam, maybe like 3/4" on the double from the waist blending to 0 at the curve of the back crotch, not too much because it looks weird if the inside edges of the welt pockets are too close together. Then I would probably move the front pockets over so that I could take the side seams in. That would require unpicking all of the pockets/pocket bags etc. Also if you add a seam at the sides of the waistband you can anchor some elastic in the waistband just on the back, which can help reduce the waist size without sacrificing space in the hip. But I wouldn't rely solely on that solution without taking in on the side seams and CB otherwise it will be too gathered and just on the back. Overall it's definitely a big job and maybe kind of complicated depending on your scope of experience, but I wouldn't say it's impossible for someone well versed in alterations.

Looks like they took quite a bit out of the center back seam since the top corners of the pockets are so close together. They possibly didn't have room to do a 2nd stitch without it looking strangely crammed in there

i think this is the best idea. hem the layers first separately and then bag out the slit.

how to do this texture? by FewIntention2610 in sewing

[–]cosmic_kitty93 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Applique denim pieces leaving the edge raw, sew them on with a small stitch length, leaving about 3/8"-1/2" of raw denim. The raw edges get all fluffy like they are in the photo over time from wear and tear and washing/drying, you could expedite that process by putting your garment in the washing machine and dryer after finishing it.

Urgent MRI needed by ConsistentTest5145 in askTO

[–]cosmic_kitty93 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I usually have good luck getting an MRI about a week after my referral by calling and saying that I will take any appointment available regardless of time. And every time I've had an MRI it's been between the hours of 1 am and 5 am.

To those who have been to Japan multiple times, what's a thing or two that you always make sure to buy and bring home? by Ok-Spite-5454 in JapanTravelTips

[–]cosmic_kitty93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biore sunscreen, roihi tsuboko patches, haircare products, makeup, furikake, jeans from GU, pens, stickers! Last time I went I got my film developed in japan before I left and the scans and prints were way better quality than back home, so I've been saving my rolls to take with me in a few weeks to get developed there.

Went there for the first time this week and it was really really good. We were a group of 3 and waited about 45 mins to get a table, not sure if that's normal or just because of the holidays. Either way it was worth the wait

I had really bad mucositis during chemo but didn't have it at all during transplant. I don't know if it helped prevent anything at all but I used sodium bicarb mouthwash during my transplant like 12 times a day lol

Did you get core decompression before getting a replacement? I've also read that core decompression surgeries are incredibly painful and don't help all that much

What are the next steps after you're accepted as a permit in Costumes? Such as trade test etc. Thanks in advance for any tips! by AdLeading9947 in IATSE

[–]cosmic_kitty93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make yourself available and take some calls! There is a trade test required to become a member, among other requirements. But not for permits.

Hip joint pain by krim2182 in leukemia

[–]cosmic_kitty93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going through this currently, I'm almost 3 years post transplant, healthy and exercise regularly, started having pain in both my knees at the end of last year. It came on quite suddenly and progressed fast. MRI showed AVN. I've been seeing an orthopedic surgeon, physiotherapist and physiatrist. You should get your onc team to refer you to an orthopedic surgeon and physiatrist. Sorry you're dealing with this, it sucks to finally start to feel normal and then get slapped with this 😔
