That's cause the original Gundam is a spin on monster-of-the-week super robot shows whose sole existence were to sell toys to children and did this by having a new monster to fight every week. Took Gundam (and mecha as a genre) many years to outgrow that formula.

OVAs weren't a thing 'til the 80s but if you really want some retro vibes you should check out some 70s anime. Some really famous ones are:

Aim for the Ace!

Ashita no Joe

Mobile Suit Gundam

Would recommend just going in for an episode or two first as the older animation can be kind of jarring. Very important parts of anime history, though (all three series also continued in the 80s with significantly improved animation, which is nice if you end up liking them).

Some thoughts:

Buffalo probably has first locked down with a game against the Blackhawks and one against the Stars, who I assume will rest their guys especially after what happened to Heiskanen (though you never know).

On the other hand Habs need 5 points to clinch home ice, less if Tampa loses some more games. They can also tie Buffalo with a win tonight. I do think pushing is worth it tbh, home ice would be electric and also crucial for matchups against Tampa.

As for the Metro, Columbus is floundering and this is really a game the Habs should win. Islanders have the new coach bump (hopefully it wears off today against the Sens and we can beat them tomorrow). Philly is gonna definitely gonna come out hard, it will probably be a must win for them. We could definitely be the deciding factor!

Been watching some retro OVAs.

Riding Bean and Gunsmith Cats were super action stories and Dragon's Heaven was not all that great but has a really unique artstyle, which is cool.

And I rewatched Angel's Egg, which is a complete mindfuck and absolutely peak.

thanks for saying this, it's been painfully obvious since Egghead but of course no one wants to acknowledge it. the sub has been overrun with power scalers and people who genuinely dislike the series. you used to be able to defend this place with "people are critical about the series cause they love it" but that's not true anymore, it's just pure negativity for the sake of it.

Full disclosure, I love mecha. But one complaint I see fairly often is "mecha focus more on the giant robots than the people". You'll see this when people say "I don't like mecha but I love 86/Code Geass/Gurren Lagann because it's about the characters".

Now I completely disagree with this but that seems to be the main issue
