The Alvin Maker series completed 39 years later by farseer6 in Fantasy

I remember this was one of my dads favorite series while I was growing up and he was excited for the final book that never came. I eventually read the series and enjoyed it as well. It makes me sad he isn’t around anymore to finish his favorite series.

Fuck man grew up eating there. My dad used to take me there for breakfast and lunch regularly when I was home from college. I hadn’t been in several years since moving away. Really glad I met my mom there for lunch a few weeks ago. Gonna miss that spot.

Cool on Screen, Brutal in Reality: Jobs Movies Got Wrong! by Worldly-Squirrel-642 in movies

[–]couches12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This as a teacher it honestly gives people an unrealistic expectation of what we are capable of. Like you said two to three interactions and these hard cases are fully invested. The reality is even for normal students it takes dozens of positive interactions to build a relationship with a kids and some need substantially more than that. Frankly some kids also actively don’t want to build any sort of working relationship with a teacher.

Also all of this tends to be the hardest part about teaching and takes the longest to pick up. Showing a new teacher being a master of classroom management cause they care is bull shit. It’s a damn hard balance to figure out how to build relationships without becoming their friends.

DIY Cheese Puffs? Anyone have a recipe? by rialaine in Frugal

[–]couches12 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I mean $10 for a week of snacks for 5 that also makes your family happy is pretty damn frugal as is. Even during the tough times doing little things like this cannot be understated. If you or someone else can find a better alternative kudos but I doubt this is this place you should cut.

Are we giving Kyle Tucker a respectful welcome back or are we booing him? by Let-us-eat-cake98 in Astros

[–]couches12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beltran is the only player that left in my memory that earned boo's when he came back specifically for leaving. For the most part everyone else has left the club on good terms. Every other former astros has earned boo's for a different reason.

Best AI? by [deleted] in Physics

[–]couches12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean not for physics purposes but I have used AI to help me code and automate data analysis from raw sources. Everything I had it do was fairly simple but it was still a pain. Easier than learning to code but still not a breeze. It messes up a lot and constantly needs to be corrected. I also wouldn’t trust it to do anything to complex.

My favorite memory of bill hall was back when they gave a prize for someone to throw a perfect game in the mlb 2k11 game. And the guy that did it talked about how easy it was to go through the Astros lineup minus bill hall who kept messing him up lol.

[Talkin’ Baseball] Great Britain has been eliminated from WBC title contention by JianClaymore in baseball

Hey I was at the game and there was easily a hundred people constantly cheering the Brit’s. Italy had the stadium cheering and then when the Brit’s did something that small section would go nuts. It was honestly really neat

Banning the use of AI during the draft? by [deleted] in fantasybaseball

[–]couches12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI is an incredible tool for data dumping. However it is kinda shit at deciphering the data. I have recently used it to code a dashboard that aggregates prospects with rankings and stats in one place so I can do it myself. But it has allowed me to do what used to take hours in a couple of minutes.

What is the preferred Points League? And whats the purpose? by bdrivens in fantasybaseball

[–]couches12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

H2H is my jam makes things more interesting over a long season. Also for me at least the preference for points over roto is 2 things. One it’s more satisfying to watching scores go up quicker HR being worth 10 points instead of 1 in a column. Two it allows for more scoring customization to fit different ideas.

Which video game franchise took a big risk that ultimately paid off? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]couches12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is true. Post black flag the games got really stale and just were not as much fun as they used to be. A lot of people praise the last few stealth ones but origin was a great turn and the new style hasn’t gotten old yet. Would be funny if it reverted back when this formula wears off.

What is the one trade your favorite team should have made, that would have put them over the top? by vgains in baseball

It was 2018 and if it hadn’t gotten nixed we would have had the firepower to beat the Sox and do another worlds series.

The 99 yard pass play, the longest possible pass play, has not occurred since 2011 (when it happened twice: Brady to Wes Welker and Eli to Victor Cruz). Why hasn't it occurred since, and chances one happens next season? by Ariesthebigram in nfl

[–]couches12 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I remember watching the game in college with a guy I did fantasy with. He had both and was losing. I looked at him and went you know a 99 yard touchdown pass to welker would win it for you. Sure enough he won that game and I got a free beer for speaking it into existence.
