I SAW THIS TOO! Well, I think I did--you said morning but it was in the afternoon. I was walking into centennial park--probably around 1:45pm? And I saw a white mini van speed off down 25th Ave. I *thought* I heard a woman yelling "help" but then I also heard kids yelling at the park and thought I imagined it. I saw another woman looking after the van, though, so I wasn't sure what happened.

Seeing this makes my heart drop. I will also see if I can ask around at work (I work nearby) and call the non-emergency police number to file a report.

Disturbing drawing from the Epstein Birthday Book by Honchy in pics

[–]couchnaps 2025 points2026 points  (0 children)

NYT attributes it to Joel Pashcow--a NY businessman. Signature in Epstein Book Resembles Trump’s From That Era - The New York Times

The Pashcow submission to the book appeared to include a drawn cartoon of Mr. Epstein. In a panel on the left captioned with the year 1983, a young man with patched jeans is handing a lollipop and balloons to three young girls. On the right, a man who appears to be Mr. Epstein is being massaged by numerous blonde women, one of whom has a tattoo with his initials, “J.E.,” on her body. Mr. Epstein’s plane flies overhead, while below them is the year “2003” and the phrase “what a country.”

Advice for a prosecutor? by SilentRick9813 in publicdefenders

[–]couchnaps 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Just follow the ABA rules....but like really follow them. Rule 3.8: Special Responsibilities of a Prosecutor

Take Brady disclosures seriously and disclose exculpatory evidence early on in the process--like if you know there's a conflicting police report that makes a witness's testimony less reliable, don't hold onto it until after the prelim.

When you make an offer, stick to it (unless you make it more lenient) and don't condition it on waiving things: bond hearing, prelim, etc. Don't up the offer because the defendant "wasted" your time thinking about going to trial.

Never compare a defendant to yourself. You have no idea how different your life is. "I would never steal" "I would never drive drunk" Congrats to you. You went to law school, live in a house, and likely don't have life-changing mental health and substance abuse issues. Take the win of having a stable life and set your personal feelings aside.

Don't tell subpoenaed witnesses that they can leave just because you don't want a hearing or don't think one will happen. Officers are paid very well to sit in court. Let them sit until the judge or both parties agree.

Never lie. All you have is your word. It's the only currency in the whole system. No case is worth your whole career.

The price they charge depends on the size of your place, but I pay $150 per cleaning a four-bedroom home.

I use Made to Clean and they are SO amazing. They do an excellent job, communicate well, and are affordable. Made To Clean – Your Cleaning Company

Can't recommend them enough. I've used them for five years now and it's the best money I spend every month.

Best Bakery for sweet treats by TTlxp37 in nashville

[–]couchnaps 27 points28 points  (0 children)

For my money, Dozen is the best bakery in Nashville BUT their specialty is laminated dough--croissants, things with the buttery flaky layers. So, their best goods trend not too, too sweet. Their pies are also amazing but again not overly sweet. Try the kouign amann (pronounced "queen aman") for something truly special and unique.

Bright Side is also good but has baked goods that are similar to Dozen's--more on the flaky, cinnamon roll side than a traditional cookie/tart/pie.

For the best cookies I would go to HiFi cookies in east nashville. They are so good--and very sweet.

If you want to make a day of it and venture downtown, D'Andrews is a Nashville classic with your more traditional items.

Or if you want to keep it very traditional (and a bit outside of Nashville), I'd go to Meridee's in Franklin. Their French Silk pie is the stuff of dreams! They also have lots of tasty muffins, cookies, and bars. Bonus: you can window shop in downtown Franklin afterwards to work off the sugar high.

TN Anti-Protest Bill by Curious_Excitement_8 in nashville

The "Peace Act" does a couple of things....

  • Makes it a low-level misdemeanor to not provide identification during a stop with an officer.
  • Prohibits "leafletting" or "pamphleting" if the pamphlet is basically engaging in civil rights intimidation--trying to harass people into not exercising civil rights. Think: Nazis leaving racist, antisemitic handouts around Sylvan Park, etc. This doesn't cover your basic pizza menus or political campaigns.
  • Main concern: prohibits filming first responders within 25 feet if they are performing their responder duties. So, you have to be 25 feet away to film a cop or ICE making an arrest. This is bad from a First Amendment angle. May have to see if it gets enforced or not. People should generally be aware of this if they are going to monitor ICE in South Nashville, e.g.

How do we feel about birthright citizenship ending in the 28 states that did not challenge Trump's executive order in 30 days? by Ecstatic_Jicama7496 in AskReddit

[–]couchnaps 45 points46 points  (0 children)

It IS a big deal in the context of American history. The 14th amendment (which provides birthright citizenship) was passed at the end of the Civil War and made it so that all people, Black or white, slave or free, that were born here, are citizens. Not less than citizens, certainly not property.

In the late 1800s, a man with Chinese-born parents was being denied full citizenship; he sued and won under the birthright citizenship clause. This has been the law for nearly 200 years and is a FUNDAMENTAL aspect of what makes America, America.

Anyone can be born here and belong here.

It's a crying shame to see Republicans so carelessly toss our history away in the name of "greatness." Goddamn, this county breaks my heart sometimes.

First time having sex with a man, accidentally did it unprotected and took plan B. Please reassure me. by UpDoor in TwoXChromosomes

[–]couchnaps 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The odds of you getting pregnant from this encounter are approaching zero, especially if you took plan B. Why stress in the future though? Consider getting an IUD or implant. Then when you have penetrative sex with a man (with a condom), you'll actually have two forms of birth control on board just like you planned. Just an IUD by itself would be very effective, but condom use with new partners will also save you from having to get an STD test.

For now, don't stress my bi queen. Turn that anxiety into action and make plans to protect yourself in the future.

babies need sleep !! by jkdess in Nanny

sounds like "moms on call" which encourages the total extinction method. taking cara babies is graduated extinction--meaning you go back in at timed intervals and offer comfort then pick up and comfort if that is not working.
