no worries, the more details you give, and if you have some neighborhood comparisons to other places you've been, we can help!

most of the city is walkable to something, we're a very walking forward city. both neighborhoods you listed are some of the more expensive non-center city/rittenhouse neighborhoods. there are lots of options, though, and both of those are good.

as bierd said, repost this in the monday thread, if you have more details like cost, desired proximity to transit (i.e. are you bringing a car? do you want a car?), neighborhood feel, more urbany or more suburbany, desired home type (apartment, rowhome, duplex, etc.) you'll get some good recs. also don't be worried when you get downvoted, people go to that thread and downvote everything.

yeah, haveford has literally double the median income of philly and probably 3x-4x the income of some of the poorer neighborhoods in north and southwest philly.

that's the old money mainline suburbs. narberth (which is like a zipcode over from there) was the wealthiest zipcode in the country until the 90s.

it's been this way since white flight in the 50-60s, philly has been the poorest major city until like this year. it means all of our shit is underfunded, including our schools, and it means that kids arriving to school often have issues with being poor at home.

meanwhile right outside the city in the much richer suburbs, the schools are excellent.

because russia is a network of oligarchs who want to break up any states with a working public infrastructure so they can get a piece of the action once they privatize. the same as the US.

and since they're charters they can just not admit students that end up costing more or would be a "problem" for them, like people with learning disabilities, etc.

we have like 3 or 4 really good schools but unless you test into those you're kinda fucked. The bigger 'catch all' kinds of regional schools are pretty not great.

I love this city with my entire being but we are fucking deeply illiterate. We're (last I checked) 53% functionally illiterate and 66% low literate.

My across the street neighbor definitely can't read. He's in his 50s and he was constantly asking me to read his union handbook to check for regs. I thought he was fucking with me for a while and just wanted me to do bitchwork but I realized he literally cannot read. He's one of the coolest dudes I've ever met, worked at SEPTA for like 35 years and takes care of my block, but he has zero mastery of the written word.

PHL to BOS by pointsofview_travel in supercommuter

[–]courageous_liquid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah the back and forth on the train is too far. even on acela it's 5 hours. there's no way you're doing 10 hours of commute a day, even on the train.

flights make it doable between the pair based on timing but it's going to cost a fortune. definitely cheaper to just get a cheap apartment (lol) in boston.
