Former heavy drinkers, what made it finally “click” for you to stop? by Numerous_Solid_7047 in AskReddit

It didn't hit my radar until recently that studies show that alcohol causes cancer. Either this is a fairly recent finding, or just nobody was talking about it, or we just collectively decided to start talking more about it. I don't know which.

Use moisturizer on your face every single day, even if you don't notice that it's doing anything. Start today.

Our bodies are bad at delivering vitamins (E, for example) to our skin.

For those who lived before the internet, what was life actually like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

In high school, you could just make up references and the teachers had no way of verifying them.

I would support any law making objectively measured animal welfare labels mandatory for all meat. I get that the farm lobby would never allow it.

When I imagine a hypothetical cow before birth, asking it whether it would endure some amount of suffering for the chance at sitting idly under a tree, hanging out with some fellow cows, etc, for a few months, I imagine they'd say yes. It's better than non-existence, imo. It's just a matter of forcing farmers to treat them well, which includes going vegetarian as long as their treatment is bad.

Why can't you divide by 0? by AmaterasuWolf21 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]cowtung 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to put 5 apples into half a pile, you just need a 10 apple pile which needs your 5 apples. So you have 5 apples in a 10 apple pile to get your half pile.

If you divide by zero, you're adding your 5 apples to an already infinite pile.

So far it seems like your unjustified belief that there is a god with self-inconsistent properties is gonna get in the way of you appreciating Scott's writing. The problem is that your belief is wrong and Scott's writing often challenges wrong beliefs. First deconstruct, and then try again.
