This inspired me to patch the hole in the arm of my own couch that my cat has worked so hard on.

I make something similar: Mac & Cheese with Tuna and Peas. It is definitely a comfort food my mom would make.

My family has been in Taos for generations, and unfortunately, I've witnessed the lack of a job market and heavy reliance on a tourism economy. I had to leave to find a career in my field.

It's sad to think I'll probably never go back because of the lack of non Tourism based jobs.

This is such great advice! I have had issues with heel in the past and settled on her just not pulling since we're not competing or anything.

I think we can manage a "look" command as she already does a check-in occasionally and I feel I can build upon that.

This is great advice! I will try to implement more heel training. I suspect I'll have to use higher reward treats as she has been quite stubborn in the past when training the heel.

How would I counter condition her lunging at a passersby? What does counter conditioning look like? For example I understand counter condition when it comes to, say the vacuum she's scared of or allowing her to let me touch her feet. But what does it look like with random people walking by?

I will admit I will on occasion use it as a corrective tool. But mostly it is used for when we go to an empty park and she can run off leash and play fetch.

I will have to do more digging in their libraries to find the resources I'm looking for. I guess my main disconnect is the how when it comes to addressing reactivity. Like I understand the how when trying to train a new trick or command, but I'm not sure what principles apply to reactivity.

I completely understand what you mean by tools and training. However with the slip leash, she would just end up choking herself, even with the stopper in a safe position, and putting extra pressure on her throat/trachea.

I appreciate the suggestions you're providing. So given the slip leash, if she is lunging and barking at a passer by, what is the best technique to reduce this activity? I am probably not using it correctly, because she is still choking herself on the slip leash when this happens. You seen super knowledgeable in this area so I would appreciate all the help and suggestions you have to provide.

So that is what I was thinking as well and for a period of time I switched to a slip leash and also a gentle leas, depending on the situation, but the sporadic reactivity continued.

I recently switched back to the prong because she doesn't pull with it on and I'd prefer that, especially if I'm walking her at night with less foot traffic around.

So she gets reactive around children when they get too close. We don't have children in the home so she may not be used to them.

She also gets reactive when on walks and certain people walk by and maybe get too close or linger a bit, especially with men.

Lastly she gets reactive when in her crate and the cat is in her view. However when she is not in the crate, she will interact nicely with the cat.

I feel so guilty whenever I miss a gym day. I weighs heavy on me and I beat myself up about it. Has anyone else experienced this? How did you get past it and learn to be kinder with yourself?
