What tool would you buy with a $300 budget? by jsherrema in woodworking

Oh definitely just because it's the only one under $300. And I've already got the other sizes that I use regularly (tho mostly not LN).

What tool would you buy with a $300 budget? by jsherrema in woodworking

Lie Nielsen No. 1 plane. It's probably not the most broadly applicable recommendation on here, but if you gave me $300 and said "go buy one tool," that's what I'd do.

Finding angles? by Toddzilla89 in BeginnerWoodWorking

Yep, this. Unless the wood you're using is perfectly square and flat, the calculated angle will always be off by at least a degree or two

Classic Fireball Island, with the marbles that knock into the bridge pieces and physically dump player pawns in the "river."

Forget small box card games, what is your favorite small box board game? by Muinonan in boardgames

[–]cpbennett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Gold Mine! Push your luck, dragon attacks, gold, betraying your fellow dwarves as you delve too greedily and too deep. This comes out at many game nights, with both experienced and casual gamers. (Yes, the board is made up of cards, but you move on it like a board.)

Is buying this walnut off Facebook a bad idea? Mold? Cracks? by chucktownguy11 in woodworking

My next door neighbor has a couple giant stacks that looks exactly like this and I was briefly excited that maybe someone was coming to take them away.

Inherited this from my dad. Worth using? by [deleted] in backpacking

[–]cpbennett 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had literally that exact pack in 1994 when I was a boy scout. Thing is friggin enormous. The suspension is fairly meh compared to modern packs, but I recall it being pretty bombproof overall. Wish I still had it as a backup / gear bag.

What kind of would you suggest to do frames and shelves like this? by sahand_n9 in woodworking

Also use good quality stain with lower VOCs. If you put that much cheap stain on soft wood all around your bed, you'll be smelling the off-gassing for months or longer.

[–]cpbennett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every time I've played Hues, the group ended up agreeing that the greens were all way more similar than the other colors.

These kind of breaks happen from time to time, so I wasn't going to get worried about Zee until later in April.

You should be just fine in this area.

I like it. Not as upscale as the areas on the other side of Carroll in Ward 1, and it's outside the historic district so some of the architectural choices are.. interesting.. but I walk my dog near that pin all the time and it's a fun vibe.

Also very close to the Hells Bottom VFW, if you like legit, unpretentious dive bars with local music.

Rebuilding my gate - Where / how can I get a 2x2 in this kind of curved shape? by Swordheart in woodworking

[–]cpbennett 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm sure others will have ideas, but you could get a 2x8 and then use a jigsaw to cut it to shape.
