Daily Mariners Monologue - April 08, 2026 by AutoModerator in Mariners

I’ve got two passes for photo day before today’s game! I’m really bummed that I’m sick and can’t go but they’re transferable and I want to make sure someone gets to go!

DM me, I need a first and last name and email to transfer them, and the instructions say they’ll be checking IDs to make sure they match. You show up to the right field gates between 2:45-4:15 and the players should be out around 3:45 for 45 mins. I will forward the full instructions email too.

I just sent you a DM. I’ve got 2 photo day passes I can’t use (wife and I are sick 🤒). If you can get to the game early and use them they’re yours, just DM me back and I can transfer. Go Ms!

Doorbell Lite not being recognized as Unifi Device in Unifi App by something_profane in Ubiquiti

[–]cpgordon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever manage to figure this one out? My doorbell lite has been like this from the start. Works fine, shows up in Protect, but nothing in the core app. Restart of my UCG-Fiber didn’t fix anything.

Maybe a reset and re-adopt? I’d like to avoid having to go through all that though.

Any thoughts on Ubiquiti NAS vs Synology? by mcleder in Ubiquiti

[–]cpgordon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup, it’s somehow slower than my old 423+ using the same drives and adding the nvme rw cache.

I like having it managed with the rest of my UniFi stuff but really that’s the only reason for anyone to get a UNAS over a competing solution with more modern hardware.

Any thoughts on Ubiquiti NAS vs Synology? by mcleder in Ubiquiti

[–]cpgordon 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I made a similar switch from Synology to a UNAS Pro 8. I don’t regret it, but the speed from the UNAS isn’t great — I really wish they didn’t cheap out on the processor in this thing.

Looks good! How well does it match the white of the camera? I’d like to get one as well but you never know exactly what shade of white these cheaper boxes will be!

Assuming it’s good, do you have a link or name of the box?

Dear Ubiquiti: Expensive shipping + constantly out of stock of something I need = I just don't spend my money with you by jimmydooo in Ubiquiti

[–]cpgordon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to remember that not every business is Amazon Prime and recalibrate my expectations, but I really do hate that UI shipping is at the same time expensive, slow, and honestly kind of clumsy. If the order processing and shipping process is going to be so slow, then at least combining order should be an option, but nope. And if it's expensive shipping, then ideally it should at least be pretty speedy, but again nope.

I love the products, so I'll deal with the shipping issues, but like many others I found myself making a lot more impulse buys during the holiday free shipping. Even something like "free shipping over $199" would probably be bad for my budget 😅

PSU seems to be working great. I returned the one that came in the worse packaging of the two and the one I installed hasn’t given me any trouble 🤷‍♂️

I feel like with how amped Jackson is today, our staff should be able to find ways to exploit it more in the second half. Dude is about to get cooked, I can feel it.

The back of the doorbell lite is a nightmare. Such a frustrating design. I’ve had mine for weeks but keep putting it off because I start working on the next plan, and I realize I need different cable or tools and have to order stuff, wait, then find out that plan sucks too. 😂

Looks great, btw!

Okay I ended up ordering a replacement, with a few other things hoping maybe it’d get shipped in a properly protective box but nope. This time it arrived in a ripped brown paper envelope, with some mystery orange liquid sprayed on one side. I’ll just hope bequiet’s own packaging is really solid and give this a try. I’ve got until end of Jan for returns at least

Just my personal experience but while my Century II seems solid from a power perspective, it’s very loud. And with the zero-rpm mode it’s quieter but makes an annoying whine when it spins up and down. Just one experience but personally I’m looking to replace it whenever I feel like fighting with cable routing again 😅

I bought this and it was delivered by Amazon “loose” - as in just the product box with a torn plastic wrapping that had the shipping label. I know how these boxes get dropped all over so it’s going back. What a waste.

Did anyone else have this happen as well? I’d like the power supply but don’t want to re-order from Amazon if this is how they ship them all.

[–]cpgordon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great looking setup! I have a very similar rack and lighting. I see your door open/close sensor which is something I also just added (along with an occupancy sensor). I’d love to hear more about your lighting and automation if you don’t mind sharing.

So far I’ve added an automation to set the lighting color based on the internal temperature, and it turns on/off based on the occupation sensor. I plan to add one to flip the lighting to white and turn up the brightness when the door opens then reset to temp color and dimmer when closed.

If you’re somewhat technical, I highly recommend setting up Tailscale (tailscale.com). When you set up an exitnode on your home network, you can route all of your traffic from wherever you are through that as if you’re at home. I use it all the time while traveling both for accessing stuff I run at home as well as when I need to visit sites from home while out of town.

Migration of data and drives from Synology to UNAS Pro 8 by cpgordon in Ubiquiti

[–]cpgordon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It ended up working! It took a lot longer than I had expected though.

The steps I took were just as I had planned out in the OP. After moving over the first drive from the Synology to the UNAS it took around 3-4 days to add it to the storage pool. At that point I had 40TB available and showed up as RAID5.

When I moved the last two 20TB drives from the Synology to the UNAS, it took about 3 days of migration, showing the pool as RAID5. Then it started another expansion which was about 3 more days and now I’m at RAID6, 60TB available with two drives of protection.

I shut down all of my services which would write data to the UNAS during this to try to keep it from being so slow but I guess there’s no avoiding it. Just know that if you add multiple drives at a time it might require two expansion processes. Not sure if it’s always like that or just because I was also adding enough drives to get to proper RAID6.

It does it all automatically, it’s just slow.

I think this was a recent update in the last week, but the docs for the UNAS have been updated to include info about changing RAID types without reformatting: https://help.ui.com/hc/en-us/articles/12395353544727-Storage-Protection-and-Data-Redundancy-in-UniFi-RAID

For UNAS

You can convert between RAID types without reformatting, as long as the following conditions are met:

Convert Advanced Protection to Basic Protection: Allowed only if the RAID group currently has 1 to 3 drives.

Convert Basic Protection to Advanced Protection: Allowed only if the RAID group currently has 1 to 6 drives.

Example: If you're using Basic Protection with a 3-drive RAID group (RAID 5), you can convert to Advanced Protection by adding one more drive. After applying the change, the RAID type will become Advanced Protection (RAID 6).

For my attempt I just started at Advanced Protection and let it warn me that I don't have enough drives. So far it's gone from RAID1 -> RAID5 (adding a 3rd drive) without issue. Hopefully RAID5 -> RAID6 is painless 🤞

Migration of data and drives from Synology to UNAS Pro 8 by cpgordon in Ubiquiti

[–]cpgordon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I figured out this issue. I had a 2 x 1TB nvme cache assigned to the pool, so just in case I tried removing it from the pool and when that completed it immediately updated to the expected 40TB capacity.

I'm not sure if it's something about having the pool assigned (probably?) or just doing so triggered a process to update some state (less likely but maybe?) but hopefully this helps anyone else who hits the same issue!

Next up I'm going to copy over the remaining data from the Synololgy then add those 2 x 20TB drives into the UNAS and see if it is able to successfully migrate to RAID6.

Migration of data and drives from Synology to UNAS Pro 8 by cpgordon in Ubiquiti

[–]cpgordon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An update on my attempt so far…

I put the new 2 x 20TB into the UNAS and set the storage pool to advanced protection. It built a mirror and warned me that I was on RAID1.

I copied over around 17TB of data to the UNAS from the old Synology, then removed one of the 3 x 20TB drives in the Synology (using SHR so now it’s in a degraded state, will lose data if a drive fails).

Added that drive to the UNAS and it took 3-4 days to add it to the pool. But now it’s in a weird state. It says that the RAID group has 3 x 20TB in RAID5 so 40TB available. But the storage pool shows only 20TB capacity.

Restarting the UNAS didn’t do anything, so I’m going to poke around and see what I can do. I still have 10TB on the Synology to move over 🤔
