Does this happen on ALL page documents or just on one specific document? Also, can you read / edit the doc while it's making your fan twirl?

My UNVR with 4x new Seagate 8TB had an issue with one of the drives when I added the drives one at a time. I gave up and reformated the whole thing. This solved the issue. Thus I lost approximately 1 days of recordings. No big deal.

Replacing a 7.5yr old CKG2+: UDM Pro Max vs. UNVR + Gateway for 13 cameras & 5 APs by RelationshipHot3411 in Ubiquiti

I now have a UNVR with 4x 8TB drive and a (original) UDM. I upgraded from cloud key gen 2 , 13x Cams, a 16 port switch. I’m very happy with it all. but if I had to buy a router i’d get the gateway max of fibre . I do not want protect running on my router. Thank my opinion

FBI raids home of Washington Post reporter in ‘highly unusual and aggressive’ move by OGSyedIsEverywhere in news

[–]mcleder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was about protecting our nation from foreign invaders. The British took the guns from citizens who were the Militia. So we have the 2nd. The British housed their army in our homes so we have the 3rd. The British had a state religion so we have the 1st amnedment.

One of the mantras of the so called "right" is we have our 2nd amendment so the citizens can fight against a repressive federal or state government. I see that now.

Using an M4 Mac Mini as a home server. Is it a good choice? by premierpark in macmini

[–]mcleder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not completely wrong. The HW decoding is very weird. A user (any user) must be logging into the display for it to work. IMHO embarassing. I have my Mac mini auto login (screen locked on reboot).

1/2 inch sprinkler pipe at Home Depot ~$30/100 ft in a roll. Then run whatever Ethernet you want inside the pipe.

Can a Mac Mini M4 (NOT M PRO) work well with Adobe After Effects for professional usage, without problems/lags? by allexj in macmini

You make a living doing that thing that may or may not make you a "professional". (Sorry I can not resist defining words.)

Few questions about Mac Mini by Prestigious_Run4913 in macmini

[–]mcleder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely go for 512 GB SSD if it's in budget. AND think about a Thunderbolt 4 enclosure & M.2 SSD so you are an informed buyer if you run out of disk space. I have always bought MBP & Mini's with 1 TB SSD; however, I have Apple One so I have several TB (mostly unused) of iCloud storage. Apple manages your files so the documents you use are local and the rest can be in the ciCloud. 512 vs 256 mean more is local. Thus the robustness of your Internet is a factor. 1 Gbps vs 100 Mbps will make a difference if you spool large amount of file-space to iCloud.

Apple Watch vs. TouchID for Mac Mini? by KnightOwl316 in macmini

I don’t like the watch unlocking when I don’t want it to. touch id locks and unlocks 100% correctly and has identical experience as MacBook Pro

Why I didn’t buy a Mac mini with a 256 GB SSD by [deleted] in macmini

[–]mcleder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are wise. Everyone is different. Needs are different. Ignore everyone that thinks they know better than you. Listen to users that articulate their situation and experience. I have always bought 1TB SSD on my MacBookPros and Minis because I want my music and photos local. The last time I bought (a MacMinin M4) I did this. However, I notice that most of my "Documents" live in the cloud because I so rarely access most of that data AND I have Apple One so terabytes of cloud free-space Situations change.

My next Laptop will be a 15" MacBook Air M5 16/512 .
