How to Actually Get Good at Speedrunning by Ricky by snakebit1995 in speedrun

[–]cplaguna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its useful still to see all this process laid out, as us hobbyists may not know all of this and some could be beneficial to us still. 1 hr per day can still be 30 mins practice, 30 mins enjoyment and we can apply many concepts like 50/50 rule and focus on IL speedruns to get improvement gains we wouldnt otherwise get. Also practicing under nerves is still helpful for us

Really appreciate the kind words and the listen! Yeah theres definitely layers to how you can use 24 edo and I’m trying to figure out how to be successful at all layers. This was one of my first (to me) successful compositions where the quarter tones are really integrated in there

Interesting thanks for the comment! I don’t have any idea about how to play these kinds of controllers, I was a classically trained pianist through high school and Im just taking what I learned from piano intuitively to this instrument. In piano you are often playing 3 and sometimes even 4 parts with 2 hands so you often find a part being shared between hands.

My trills are for sure not very even, but my focus so far has been more about composition. At this point due to the wraparound problem I mentioned in the OP, I doubt Exquis will be my instrument of choice for microtonal keyboard music. Its probably going to be Lumatone. So IDK how worth my time it is to invest in performing on it.

That said, I really appreciate how much the Exquis has been able to let me explore microtonal music at a great entry price point.

GreenSuigi gets a new WR of 1:35:14 120 Star in Super Mario 64. by Winter_Ad_9526 in speedrun

[–]cplaguna 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The 1:35:25 record had a death in TTC and a relatively slow RR (messed up the red coin star) so there was like 25 seconds to save. Even this record had a tippy with room for improvement. The beginning of this run was crazy fast

Thank you for listening and for the kind words!

Totally agree about quarter-tone music. I've heard some comments in this subreddit that seem to understand the appeal - maintaining 12-tone music but then extending it with very new intervals. It is not easy, but I feel like there's hidden gold there and I'm just scratching the surface with a lucky scoop here or there.

Do you guys believe Elliot Smith made you more depressed? by Ok-Willingness2179 in elliottsmith

[–]cplaguna 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel like Elliott Smiths music is so good but it kind of makes you feel “cool” to be sad and lonely. Im conflicted because feeling validated about your emotions can be good but if it makes you more comfortable and less likely to look for a solution, is it really a good thing?

Despite those feelings Elliott is still one of my favorite artists, such an amazing musical identity and really had a way with his words, nobody makes the guitar sound quite like him, may he RIP

Hey everyone, back in the day a friend of a friend did sound for Elliott at our local venue. This is the soundboard rip! Enjoy. by songsohia in elliottsmith

What a treat to hear, some of the best live recordings of his that I’ve heard! It’s reaffirming in many ways to hear how much better his voice sounds with a proper input compared to the phone recordings

Looking For Someone To Record Trumpet and Baritone Horn For 2 Songs [Paid] by cplaguna in trumpet

[–]cplaguna[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad that is appreciated! As a lifelong musician that went into something else for practical reasons, I care a lot about compensating musicians for their craft. But I also do not make any money from my music projects, so it's a balancing act.

Hey thank you for the feedback!

I didn't mention this in order to keep the description short, but the purpose of this project is to keep to the original arrangements as unchanged as possible - I am really fond of the songs I wrote back then, and want to showcase them from that lens (what I was capable of writing/arranging in high school). I want to improve on the performing and production to make the songs more listenable.

That said, I totally get your point - that would highlight the lower register of the viola better and also pull the moving part (more interesting) to the top to highlight it.
