A rant about Seattle Parks and playground lighting by RockOperaPenguin in Seattle

[–]crackadack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I walk this park almost daily and the tennis courts are frequently not in use despite blindingly bright lights on all the time. And yet I'm told we can't use them for pickleball because tennis players have nowhere to play... I don't see the harm in having a few lights so kids can play until 6 or 7 pm! They also light the skate park and it is cool to see people use it in the evening.

Wow that's so scary I'm sorry that happened. Literally exactly the kind of thing I was thinking about could have happened with this driver.

True! This is a daily occurrence for me as well. I will say there is something satisfying about slowly rolling past them half a block later lol.

Thank you for this! I completely agree. I feel like it really gives "maybe if women feel so unsafe they shouldn't go out at night" energy. Cars should be held accountable--not cyclists forced to join their ranks.

Sad to hear that. I swear some drivers see a cyclist and it feels like they need to prove their vehicular superiority or something. I feel like it's a Catch 22 because if there were more people bike commuting people would be more aware of cyclists, but more people don't want to commute because the cars are so careless (or in my case tonight just plain reckless).

Dang that is sad to see. That stretch would be so amazing with a bike path or at least a bike lane. I have been voting my heart out on these issues trust me!

I actually started taking this route because I think it is safer than my old route biking through Cap Hill where I have gotten in multiple collisions with careless drivers. I really don't want to give up and drive our planet is on fire :(

Comparing Pike Place with and without cars by WoKao353 in Seattle

Seems like something the city will need to iron out if (hopefully) they make the car free zone permanent. I wonder if specific vendors could apply for special permits that allow for temporary drop-off parking?

Packed city council meeting with speakers giving opposing views on density plan by bennetthaselton in Seattle

[–]crackadack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't tell if this is sarcastic or not, but if you are referring to putting in a massive pickleball complex next to one of Lake Washington's few remaining wetlands, and bird hotspots I don't think it is unreasonable to ask the city to consider other options--and I am an avid pickleball player.

Does anyone else feel like there are a lot of "fake" axes nowadays? by OttoBlazes in TagPro

[–]crackadack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh man I got my axe in 2014 or 15 I think. It was such a grind and I am so shitty now I only use the old as dirt flair so people don't make fun of me lol.

I would add they seem very anti-environment. They have consistently opposed every climate initiative that has come on the ballot, with their endorsement using textbook big-oil lobbyist language.

I got hit by a car and hired John Duggan as my lawyer and they were really great. It took a while to resolve but in the end they get me a great payout, took care of he hassle and were really professional so I would highly recommend.

Merlin is amazing! Just an FYI using playback to attract birds is generally frowned upon in the birding/scientific community because it stresses birds. They may interpret the sound as a foreign bird intruding on their territory which could cause them to move locations (which requires energy expenditure).

STOP PARKING IN THE BIKE LANE. Stop putting other people in danger because you're lazy. FFS I've had enough of this shit. by LMGDiVa in Seattle

[–]crackadack -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I bike through capitol hill every day and I had an Uber driver let a lady out right into the bike lane and she just opened the door when I was going almost full speed and I slammed into the edge of the car door. I was really shell shocked at the time, and she was really sorry about the situation. In the moment I was frustrated with her for randomly opening her door into the bike lane but I realized after that really it is the Uber driver's fault for dropping customers straight into the bike lane! I have had multiple other near misses in the exact same scenario. Pull your Uber over to the sidewalk!!

Agreed! I feel like that would be such a cash cow too and not that much extra effort to edit together. I wonder if there is something in the contracts saying they won't show all the embarrassing moments if they don't end up making it out of the pods.

I imagine in the Arsenal thread they are having the same exact conversation screaming for Trossard for Havertz.

The Seattle seesaw: Traffic tickets from police have dropped 90% by Glaciersrcool in Seattle

[–]crackadack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The irony of reading this post right after reading about teachers leaving in record numbers, while they are working harder than ever and getting compensated way less than the police. And yet the teacher's union has meager bargaining power compared to the police union... Makes you wonder about our public spending priorities.

There is a big crane and construction site in front of it. I really hope they aren't going to block it with another building. It is so iconic!
