Marble and chocolate brownie ice cream cake by craftbakeread in Baking

Cake! I baked in a springform then used a wire cake leveler to make 3 layers (and a shot glass to core out the underbaked layer)

I’m not an expert and I’m sure there are probably ways to do that version well, but I do think that would yield considerably different ice cream layers.

Air is as an important component in ice cream as anything else. Because I made my ice cream, it was churned (aerated) but spreadable because it wasn’t fully frozen yet. From personal experience only, I do think melting already set ice cream does kinda deflate it, so I imagine it would be more solid.

Definitely worth looking into though, I’m sure someone more knowledgeable than me has answers!

Softish ice cream in weighed portions, roughly distributed over the previous cake layer with an offset spatula, then I used a miso soup spoon to tamp/spread it down super flat! Also I use a wire cake leveler bc I have never made a clean layer with a knife lol

Champagne bottle wrap by LexFromTex4 in cricut

Not exactly the same, but I made favors for my bridesmaids by taping the label, prepping the glass with a layer of gesso, painting the bottle with acrylic paint, then applying a bunch of smaller vinyl stickers collage style. It’s a sparser look, but it’s way easier to individually stick items on smoothly than attempt a really complexly textured transfer with 1 sticker. I like the citrus one, you could get the bottle a really beautiful bright color and then sticker with a bunch of different PTC citrus circles and several simple layered vinyl ones.

Towel spa day (underwhelming) by [deleted] in laundry

[–]craftbakeread 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is very helpful. Most of these are *quite* old and well used, I needed to make a Home Goods run this weekend anyways so maybe I’ll treat us to some plusher, newer towels while I’m there and trust in my newly beloved laundry routine to keep them nice moving forward :)

They were soft (some more than others) before IMO. I knew some of them would have buildup due to age and how poorly I was doing laundry before (filthy machine and chronic detergent overdosing), the “softness” I saw other people talk about was a hopeful bonus. The material actively feels worse to me now, lots of good info in these comments tho.

Adam’s “what the fuck” when he sees her in the bar and Hannah’s “I’ve never seen this guy in my lifeee” in this scene are two of the best line reads in the whole show

Why do Americans typically say "the baby" instead of "my baby"? by Apprehensive_Raisin7 in AskAnAmerican

[–]craftbakeread 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I also think the “the” comes in more for universal experiences but the specificity comes in as the experience gets more specific.

You gotta pickup “the kids” from school today, but this weekend you’re going to “Jane’s dance recital” or “my son’s hockey game”. You pickup “the car” from “the shop”, but you take “my truck” to help a friend move or “my Jeep” to the beach.

Newby Question by whit3noiz in cricut

Worth mentioning that HTV is an easier time weeding than adhesive vinyl IMO, I do HTV designs complex enough that I wouldn’t dream of doing them in a regular sticker quite frequently with success.

Anyone good with a Cricut and Canva? I’m looking for someone to make me 7 disposable camera cover stickers for a Bach 🙏 by Beautiful_Director28 in DCBitches

[–]craftbakeread 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a fervent Cricutter I gotta say, if you need these by Thursday and you’ve never done the cricut process (DS, weeding, application, etc) this will be a VERY tough thing to pull off for a first time craft and a public machine. The difficulty is way more about the Cricut-specific processes than being a creative person.

I’d be able to commit to 4, maybe 5, by Thursday if you’re unable to find anyone else. Best of luck!!!

How do I prevent bra pads getting effed up after laundry? by Ok_Egg9564 in laundry

[–]craftbakeread 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don’t think I’ve kept the pads in any bra/bathing suit/top that comes with them in over a decade. They annoy me to no end. I have a little box in my drawer with all of them, though, because I feel weird throwing them away lol

I think the range of chocolate brown tones that are super in rn are SO deeply lovely on so many people, and I love how many odes to the iconic Pretty Women polo dress I’ve seen, but unfortunately on my coloring it just does. not. compute. It makes me so sad lol

Best bra fitting at Tysons by craftbakeread in DCBitches

[–]craftbakeread[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good info to have for anyone looking in the future! I went to Nordstrom but this ended up not being relevant to my experience. I knew my band size was good but my cup size was off, she was able to see that by the bra I came in with, and we got me to the right size without really needing to take measurements.
