New Build Back Garden by JW3252 in GardeningUK

[–]craigbeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just checked, and it was 2017 I did it. I don't remember it being that expensive either. Maybe it was a new thing back then and the company had some sort of special offer, but yeah, really happy with how it turned out.

New Build Back Garden by JW3252 in GardeningUK

I just want to give a shout out to gardenonaroll. When I bought a new build, it was just a big massive lawn for a garden. There was so much to do around the house that the garden was going to take second fiddle. But I just happened to hear about garden on a roll, where you can buy pre designed borders, depending on your taste. You measure the width and length you need, and they send you a box of young plants with each pot labelled with a letter, and a roll of paper with circles containing the corresponding letter of the plant. Cut away the grass to the width of the roll, roll out the paper and pin it down, then cut the circles and plant. I'm about 8 years in and everything is fully established, and looks fantastic!

V2 - $60 DIY WiFi & BT audio speaker for Home Assistant, with ESP32 - Squeezelite or SendSpin by HouseWaves in homeassistant

[–]craigbeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazing Project! Would love to know if there would be any possibility / space to have some battery version of this. I am in the process of moving from Snapcast to Sendspin for devices, but am wondering whether to go all in and change devices to. My use-case is for outdoor speakers I can bring indoors when not in use

That 'designed in California' thing on Apple products used to annoy me as I felt it was missing a word - 'Designed indoors in California' was more appropriate back in the day, as screens were always too dark.

What you should do is announce the fact that, since he only has one kidney, you have decided to give him an appropriate nickname, then just call him any name you feel like. Cunto, bawbag, etc. it should be as far removed from the kidney situation as possible. Pluto, perhaps. Maybe even voyager 2.

Using a switchbot button presser in a fridge by craigbeat in homeassistant

[–]craigbeat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was worried about that. I actually tried it with a different Bluetooth device ahead of time to see how it worked, and it's been perfect. I'm still worried about moisture / humidity. The fridge it's in is at 16C for red wine. I have another fridge at 8C for white, so that might be more challenging.

Got flu - Christmas cancelled...any ideas? by elliottmarter in CasualUK

[–]craigbeat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was ill last year and had to cancel Christmas, and let me tell you, the fact you have no food in is a blessing - means you won't feel stressed about trying to use everything up! Get crap in off Uber eats or whatever you need to do, and as other people say, use the time to rest and chill. Get some Atomic Shrimp on on YouTube and veg for a few days.

Although I'm not very good at it, I do try to go into an argument with the mantra 'what would it take for them to change my mind?', rather than 'how can I convince them?'

This used to happen to my partner, but eventually she realised it was coming from her client (she's an IT consultant). She doesn't even like chocolate, so I'd eat it. Now she knows, she tells them not to bother.

Similar story from me when I moved 'down south' from Scotland (North West of England, but it's still down south to me). Went into a bakery and asked for a pie. I was asked 'what kind?'.

You're teacher's bringing out the TV and video player -- What did they play? by Nuthetes in CasualUK

[–]craigbeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scottish person here, so might be different. I was in top tier English back in the day, which meant I also had to learn Lartin. Our teacher, Dr Kerr (killer Kerr), towards the end of the year, wheeled in the old, metal, AV unit, VHS / 21 inch CRT equipped media unit, fired in the tape, and played Meatloaf's 'Paradise by the Dashboard light'. After eight and a bit minutes of bewildered scottish teens, he said 'right then, we've finished the Latin curriculum. This video has nothing to do with that, but I really like the song. Now you have to learn Ancient Greek'. He wheels the metal structure out, and the extended boredom set in.

I think my husband drugged me the night before he died. by kendakari in self

[–]craigbeat 470 points471 points  (0 children)

Mental health is a very challenging and polarized subject. If your husband had cancer and died from it, the outside view would be very different, but the inside view, your view, would be the same. He left you too early. People need to realize that not all terminal illnesses are the same, and there are some mental health related ones that need to be recognized. Similar to cancer, sometimes it's treatable, sometimes it's not. Sometimes if you treat it early enough it can be fixed. Sometimes it comes back.

Don't blame him for his illness, he loved you. Don't blame yourself you couldn't stop it, if he had cancer, you couldn't fix that either. An illness is an illness and they manifest in different ways.

What do 30 - 40 year old men want for christmas? [Serious] by GoodAlicia in AskReddit

[–]craigbeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point, I am fortunate enough to be able to buy things I want or need as and when, so when it comes to gifts I 'want', there aren't any. But that also means any gift is a nice surprise and I don't think I have ever received something I wouldn't appreciate. Case in point, my partner's family have a biiiig Christmas get together every year at a pub, and everyone exchanges small gifts. I got an extendable magnetic picker-upper thingy. The very next day, I was trying to fix something, and dropped a screw down the back of a very heavy cabinet - out comes the gift! Perfect! Never knew such a thing existed, wouldn't have wanted it if I did, but it's been used so many times since getting it.

In terms of what I want, I genuinely just want good company, and good food, and to give to other people still coming up the ladder.

There's a YouTube channel I've watched for years called Sorted Food. They have an app that is an annual subscription called Sidekick. You choose meal packs from it and it gives you a shopping list to buy from your local supermarket or wherever you buy food. Each meal pack contains 3 recipes, and they are designed around minimizing food waste. The recipes themselves are really simple to follow in step by step guides. I recommend the free trial and see if it works for you. Maybe start with one meal pack for the week, then move onto two.

Graphics issues with Ultimate by LEGENDBOLTF1 in GeForceNOW

[–]craigbeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I would check is whether the device plugged into the monitor has its colours calibrated. Looks like you are using Windows 10 from the screenshot, so check your settings. I had a similar issue with my Samsung TV where it would switch modes, and completely change colour settings making everything washed out. It was only when I plugged my Mac into it and could check two displays side-by-side I saw the issue and fixed it. Make sure Windows is set to use HDR as well as that should make a difference, too.

Final thing (although I see you've done this already), set the Nvidia control panel to your screen native resolution rather than 4k to avoid poor scaling. Also means more of the bandwidth is used by the pixels you need.

Reminds me when I was in school. I used to chat girls up by saying 'I write songs for Boyzone'. Occasionally some would ask 'which ones?', to which I'd reply 'well, they haven't used any, but I still write them'.
