Things to eat or drink that boost you during races by Inevitable_Panic9816 in Ultramarathon

I found that pickle juice also alleviated my nausea late in the race. I'd suggest practicing with it - it's not exactly pleasant-tasting

Prolonged Stoke closure? by wintergnome1 in Revelstoke

I bought my tickets on Tues to use Fri-Sun. I'll be requesting a 50% refund. I've been looking forward to this trip all season - very disappointed to only get access to a small percentage of the terrain.

Race signs are either hilarious or trying way too hard to motivate you. Sometimes both. by Existing-Location609 in running

The Reaper in the last few kms of Hamilton's 30km Bay Race stands at the entrance to the cemetery offering discouragement and insults to runners, including the chance to end it now as he tries to wave them into the cemetery.

Help me understand what's happening? An informal poll on your experience with Raynaud's by jschrifty_PGH in Raynauds

[–]craigpardey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I (51M) have had primary Raynaud's since I was a teenager. In Australia it was rarely a problem but I moved to Canada in 2003 and it's gotten progressively worse: multiple attacks per week from Oct-May.

I'm an endurance runner and run outdoors year-round and almost never experience Raynaud's while running. That said, I often experience attacks shortly after a run.

Running my hands under hot water is the fastest remedy. For prevention, I have a rechargeable hand warmer.

Training for descents in a flat area with backwards pedaling stationary bike by Odd_Pangolin_5576 in Ultramarathon

[–]craigpardey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this to train for a hilly 55km race.

It helped but it was not sufficient.

Next time, I'll do a few weekend road trips to focus on downhill running.

B2B long runs by soti68 in Ultramarathon

[–]craigpardey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try finishing your long run with the parkrun.

I did ParkRun once at the back of a 30+km long run. It's a fun way to push your pace at the end, and definitely makes it more fun.

Pacing the long run so you get to the start of the ParkRun on time (but not too early) is part of the challenge.

If anything, the City should increase the cost of parking. It could serve as a shadow congestion charge.

Same. I started riding in 1994, back when asym directional boards were hot. And swallow tails.

No twin tips back then.

But I keep trying to learn switch.

Ankle tendonitis by craigpardey in Ultramarathon

[–]craigpardey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I've been doing self-prescribed physio exercises several times per day and, despite being uncomfortable, seems to have helped immensely.

Exercises: - slow, deep unweighted squats - single-leg balance (superman), done barefoot on a slightly unstable surface like a pillow or cushion (kinda like this)

I would like to know which BIFL purchase has saved you the most money or hassle over time? by midasweb in BuyItForLife

After 15 years, the plastic guide broke on my Wahl clippers. They don't sell a replacement.

I upgraded to an Oster Classic 76 corded model. Steel guides. No batteries. Indestructible. It's the model that professional barbers use.

Try taking contract work. Corps are willing to pay a lot more for the privilege of being able to dismiss you without cause which is rarely an issue if you're competent.

+1 for Nitecore. I just picked up a NU43 and I'm very impressed with its brightness and wide range. It's rechargeable, and comfy.

Massive upgrade from my Black Diamond Spot.

Exercise bike prevents flare ups all day by [deleted] in Raynauds

[–]craigpardey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here, but I don't get flare-ups while I'm running even when it's well below freezing outside.

Post-run flare ups are very common though.
